This seemed like a good idea when I started... On to pack 7.
Note: For complete scoring rules, check out the initial post.
Pack #07: 2007 Upper Deck Series 1
Box 1:
260. Livan Hernandez (0 points)
266. Ryan Langerhans (0 points)
339. Roger Clemens (-1 point for being an Astro, -5 points for being someone on the list of guys I don't like much. -6 points total.)
351. Matt Kemp (0 points)
412. Shane Youman (It's a Pirate...although I already pulled this exact same card in a previous pack I'll still award it +2 points but that's not going to help salvage this pack.)
Win Code Card (0 points but enjoy that code kids).
Total points: 0 + 0 - 1 - 6 + 2 + 0 = -5 points.
One word: Ouch. Maybe Box 2 should root for a pack full of checklists and walk away with 0 points and a win... Of course, that's not allowed by my rules so we've gotta crack the pack!
Box 2:
20. Jose Diaz (0 points)
289. Scott Hatteberg (Hey, hey it's a Red! It's been a long time. +10 points for Hatteberg)
302. Eric Milton (Hey, hey it's a second Red! It's been a very short time. Anyhow, this is worth 10 points but only because I had blocked the awful memories of Milton as a Red from my memory bank...)
368. Ben Sheets (It was fun while it lasted huh? -1 point for being a Brewer)
487. Carlos Zambrano - Cubs Checklist (-1 point for being a Cub)
Total points: 0 + 10 + 10 - 1 - 1 = 18 points.
Well, Box 2 brought a great pack to the table with 40% of the pack being Reds...that will beat almost any other pack - and certainly a pack with a negative score. This tightens the Pack Wars race considerably!
Running tally:
Box 1: 5 pack wins and +79 total points
Box 2: 2 pack wins and +52 total points
After the last pack, Box 2 was down 50 points and 4 packs. A single pack later, Box 2 is within 27 points and 3 packs. This battle might just be starting to heat up...
