Nachos Grande Group Break: 1998 Collector's Choice - Pack 02

It's time to bust Pack #2 of the '98 Collector's Choice set!

18.  Sandy Alomar Jr.  -  Cover Glory Subset - Indians

I love the Cover Glory subset - it hearkens back to the day when Topps led off their sets with "record breakers" from the previous year.

32.  Michael Tucker - Braves
54.  Kevin Foster - Cubs

64.  Jorge Febregas - White Sox
94.  Justin Thompson - Tigers
125.  Jeret Wright - Rookie Class Subset - Indians
I remember when Wright was supposed to be the next big thing...unfortunately that never exactly panned out for Mr. Wright.
150.  Jeff Cirillo - Brewers
196.  Jason McDonald - Athletics
206.  Rico Brogna - Phillies
213.  Marc Wilkins - Pirates
256.  Brian Hunter (Tigers) / Tony Womack (Pirates)  - Top of the Charts Subset - Stolen Bases
258.  Roger Clemens (Blue Jays) / Curt Schilling (Phillies) - Top of the Charts Subset - Strikeouts

The Top of the Charts subset is a nice way to feature some of the best players of the late 90s.  I have a feeling we will see a lot of "steriod baseball" in the leader cards...and what better way than to lead off with Clemens!
SQ37.  Jeff Bagwell - StarQuest Special Delivery (Astros)

12 of 30.  Larry Walker - Stick-Ums (Rockies)

Two packs in, two Stick-Ums, that's a good sign for the box.  The Indians were the big winners of the base cards though with two.  The Hunter/Womack card is going in a pile to be divided up at the end (since both the Tigers and Pirates were claimed).  The Clemens/Schilling card though is going directly into the Phillies pile since no one claimed the Blue Jays!

I love the alternate uniforms, this pack featured Kevin Foster (Cubs) in an alternate uniform as well as Jorge Fabregas (White Sox).  After two packs, only three claimed teams don't yet have a card:  the Diamondbacks, Orioles, and Red Sox.  Of course, my Reds haven't seen any cards yet either...

Comments

  1. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any Mets yet either. I'm not worried though, that just means more excitement later.
