Since I never busted any of the Showcase product, I didn't know much about it when I decided to use a box in my group break. After opening this pack, I had to do a little bit of research. Here's what I learned:
In the main set, cards #1 - 95 are active (at the time) ballplayers. Cards #96 - 105 feature retired ballplayers and finally cards #106 - 135 are all part of a subset called Showcasing Talent.
Now that we all know what to expect, let's crack open another pack.
2003 Fleer Showcase:
Pack 2 (Lumber):
7. Tim Hudson - Athletics
19. Lance Berkman - Astros
27. Adam Dunn - Reds
131. Joe Thurston - Dodgers
The Thurston card has a blue border and is one of the Showcasing Talen subset cards. For the purposes of my bookkeeping, I will consider this an short print/insert since the Showcasing Talent cards are seeded 1:3 packs despite being numbered as part of the regular base set.
You may also notice that we only got four cards in this pack...I'm fearful that there was supposed to be a hit in this pack and for some reason we didn't get it... I guess we'll find out, maybe my fears will prove to be unfounded and the next pack will have six cards in it or something.
