Group Break: 1999 Topps Finest - Packs 1 and 2

Here's another box of cards that I've never opened even a single pack from...1999 Topps Finest.  Will this box match the Flair Showcase box in terms of presentation and card quality?  I have no idea, so let's find out.  First though, here's a peak at the packs.

1999 Topps Finest:
Pack 01:
26.  Jorge Posada - Yankees

52.  Jeff King - Royals

68.  Royce Clayton - Rangers

92.  Rusty Greer - Rangers

95.  Mike Piazza - Mets

117.  Gems:  Larry Walker - Rockies

Checklist

First a quick note:  The protective covers are kind of stupid - but I won't be removing any of them (once you get your cards in hand you may or may not wish to remove the covering).  As for the pack winner here, I'm giving the nod to the Rangers since they had a pair of base cards.  The Posada, Piazza, and Walker were all better cards but (in this case at least) quantity trumped quality.

Not a bad pack, let's see how pack 2 looks:

Pack 02:
35.  Scott Rolen - Phillies
36.  Neifi Perez - Rockies
43.  John Wetteland - Rangers
88.  Sean Casey - Reds
118.  Gems:  Scott Rolen - Phillies
PF11.  Prominent Figures:  Mark McGwire - Cardinals #719/847

PF17.  Prominent Figures:  Larry Walker - Rockies #788/847

Checklist

How about that pack?!  A pair of serially numbered insert cards.  Each Prominent Figure in the Slugging Percentage category is seeded 1:145 packs...and we got two of them in the same pack!  Might that be a good omen for the rest of the box...or should we be happy to have a pair of quite rare cards and take whatever else we get with a smile?  As for the pack winner - easy choice here...the Rockies with one of the two rare cards plus an extra base card.  So far, it's seven packs, seven different "winners."  That also bodes well for the group break - spreading the wealth so to speak.  I should also point out that the two Prominent Figures cards are MUCH nicer than they appear in the scan...anyone who ends up with one of those will be really happy I believe.
