Group Break: 1999 Topps Finest - Packs 9, 10, 11, and 12

I opened four packs of Topps finest a couple of days ago - let's crack open another four right now!

Pack 9:
24.  Sandy Alomar - Indians
63.  Damion Easley - Tigers
98.  Eric Milton - Twins
133.  Austin Kearns - Reds
L6.  Leading Indicators:  Juan Gonzalez - Rangers

TF9.  Team Finest Blue:  Todd Helton - Rockies   #0234/1500

Wow!  The Topps Finest packs are definitely feast or famine.  This one happened to be quite the cardboard feast.  First up, the Todd Helton Team Finest Blue is a rather rare insert (seeded 1:82 packs)!  That's a nice hit for the Rockies...equally cool for other reasons is the Leading Indicator card of Juan Gonzalez.  The card may look rather blah, but if you press your finger on the black outfield portion of the card the heat activates a "reveal" that shows how many homeruns Gonzalez hit to that part of the ballpark.  It's certainly a unique card (though more common than the Helton since Leading Indicators are seeded 1:24 packs, or 1 per box).  Even though the Rockies card is much rarer, I'm giving the win to the Rangers since I think their card is much more unique!

Pack 10:
9.  Kevin Young - Pirates
62.  Tom Gordon - Red Sox
86.  Doug Glanville - Phillies
91.  Andy Ashby - Padres
97.  Barry Larkin - Reds

124.  Kerry Wood - Cubs

Any pack with a new-to-me Barry Larkin card in it will be almost impossible to beat.  This one is easily a win for the Reds!

Pack 11:
11.  Scott Brosius - Yankees
22.  John Valentin - Red Sox
27.  Dmitri Young - Reds
49.  Bob Abreu - Phillies
139.  Alex Gonzalez - Marlins

I'm giving this win to the Marlins because the Gonzalez card is one of the Bonus Base Cards (and because nothing else stood out in the pack).

Pack 12:
24.  Sandy Alomar - Indians
44.  Matt Lawton - Twins
63.  Damion Easley - Tigers
121.  Troy Glaus - Angels
Peel & Reveal:  Ben Grieve - Athletics

SS7.  Split Screen:  Frank Thomas (Refractor) and Andres Gallaraga (Braves)

Another loaded pack!  The Peel & Reveal cards come in various levels, though I'm fairly certain the Grive is the lowest level (seeded 1:30 packs).  The Split Screen cards also come in various levels (with the one side refractor, one side not refractor seeded 1:28 packs).   I guess I'll give the pack win to the Athletics though since the Thomas refractor is paired with a different team (meaning the White Sox only have a 50% chance of getting the card).

All told, a pretty good group of packs - and a continuation of the feast or famine that has been present throughout the Topps Finest box thus far.

  1. I sit out one of your breaks and this is how it goes lol. The Rockies are killing it in this break (well killing it for the Rockies anyway). Whoever got them I would happy to trade for them.

  2. Yeah, the Rockies (like Reds) usually stink in breaks...but this break has been pretty good to both teams so far!
