A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

Group Break #5: 2003 Fleer Authentix - Packs 8, 9, and 10

Happy Saturday everyone!  If all has gone well, I should be on my way to Detroit right now after catching last night's Dodgers vs. Cubs game in Chicago.  Obviously, this post has been pre-written and scheduled for posting - you can expect a full ballpark breakdown when I return home!

Enough about me though, you want to see more group break cards!  Here are packs 8, 9, and 10 (out of 24 total packs) from the Authentix box.

Pack 08:
9.  Johnny Damon - Red Sox
68.  Ichiro - Mariners
81.  Edgardo Alfonzo - Giants
100.  Ivan Rodriguez - Marlins
109.  Victor Martinez - Indians

I would say Fleer got the "Future Star" title correct for Victor Martinez as he's been a good-to-great player for quite some time.

Pack 09:
2.  Tom Glavine - Mets
33.  Edgar Martinez - Mariners
42.  Fred McGriff - Dodgers
61.  Jason Kendall - Pirates
5 of 15 TS.  Ticket Studs:  Pedro Martinez - Red Sox

Another Ticket Studs card (seeded 1:6 packs - we should expect to see two more before all is said and done).  That's also the first insert card for the Red Sox - congrats to Boston!

Pack 10:
35.  Raul Ibanez - Royals
57.  Sammy Sosa - Cubs

83.  Andruw Jones - Braves
85.  Todd Helton - Rockies
103.  Francisco Rodriguez - Angels

The Sosa is a nice card for the Cubs - a team that hasn't landed their fifth base card yet (which leaves them in a group with the Royals, Brewers, Rays, and Blue Jays as the only teams without at least five base cards so far in the break).

As for the Fleer Authentix box, the collation hasn't been great thus far - in fact, through 10 packs we have already found 14 duplicates!  That's basically 3 full packs (out of 10) that have been nothing but duplicate cards.  I'm hoping that it was nothing more than dumb luck and that we'll start getting all new cards from here on out - but honestly, I'm not optimistic!
