My Newest Box Break: 2001 Upper Deck Vintage

As you may or may not recall, I was fortunate enough to receive two different boxes of cards for my birthday last month.  Last week, I finished up the posts for the first box (2000 Skybox Metal).  Today, I want to take the time to begin the next box - 2001 Upper Deck Vintage Baseball.

The 2001 UD Vintage box contains 24 packs with 10 cards per pack.  Just like with the other box I received, I already owned a few of the cards from the set, but no where near enough to consider completing the set on my own.

Will this box get me a full base set like the Skybox Metal box did?

Hint:  No, it won't since the base set contains 400 cards and this box contains only 240 cards.  Throw in the fact that some of those 240 cards will be inserts and I'll be lucky if I get a bit over half of the base set.

In addition to the 24 packs of Vintage cards, each box also contains a "hobby-exclusive" Mickey Mantle bonus pack called Pinstripe Exclusives.

Each bonus pack contains 3 cards of either Mickey Mantle or Joe DiMaggio.  The bonus packs also could contain some sort of memorabilia cards (odds aren't stated on the pack wrapper).  It doesn't matter for me though since my bonus pack contained a trio of Mickey Mantle cards.

I have a lot of interest in collecting the 2001 Vintage set, but I will not be chasing any of the Pinstripe Exclusive cards of Mantle or DiMaggio.  As such, all three are available for trade.

With the pack of only Yankees out of the way, let's move on to the real reason I wanted the box to begin with.  Modern Vintage goodness!

MM19.  Matinee Idols:  Pedro Martinez

I love the fact that the Vintage cards are printed on cardboard (and completely devoid of any foil).  The Matinee Idols are an insert set seeded 1:4 packs.  I don't even care that this set is a rip-off of Topps' designs, it's still a lot of fun to open!  Stay tuned throughout the week as I'm sure I'll be posting a bunch of the packs out of the box.
