Before I get to the next couple of packs in my 1998 Fleer Tradition box, I wanted to make an early announcement that I'm hoping to hold a group break in the very near future! I have to wait until the boxes are in hand - but start saving your pennies because I think this group break will appeal to a lot of you!
For now though, let's return to the break of my box!
Pack 21:
371. Lee Stevens
410. Eric Milton
416. Mike Kelly
473. A.J. Hinch
Kind of a cool shot - it appears that Hinch just tried to throw someone out - or else he's about to try to make a throw (without the ball in his hand)? I can't really tell...but either way the batter looks totally disinterested.
478. Jeff Suppan
483. Eric Karros
517. Jose Mesa
540. Fred McGriff
578. Unforgettable Moments: Tony Clark
Vintage '63: 114. Al Martin - Pirates
Diamond Ink points (1 point): Roberto Hernandez
Pack 22:
417. John Smoltz
439. Rod Beck
I wonder if Beck just cut the cheese or what - there's not a soul to be found in that dugout shot!
461. B.J. Surhoff
488. Jeff Brantley
495. Brian Johnson
520. Mike Fetters
549. Devon White
I think that Fleer must have hired Upper Deck photographers for this set - so many shots seem like they belong to the Collector's Choice line (such as this White using a camera photo). That's probably part of why I like this set so much though, so I guess Fleer did something right!
563. Kerry Wood
571. Checklist: Jose Cruz, Jr.
Vintage '63: 105. Bernard Gilkey - Mets
Diamond Ink points (1 point): Nomar Garciaparra
All things considered, that was a successful pair of packs. I did end up with a few more duplicates (five to be exact) but that's bound to happen with 10 cards per pack and a set of this size. I'm still thinking I have a chance to get the full base set out of the box (not counting all the short prints). We shall see in due time I guess.
Remember, keep checking back on my blog for my newest group break - sign ups should go up soon!

So far in 2014, I must have seen the 1998 Fleer Tradition set make an appearance on no fewer than 6 different blogs. I think we have an early contender for 'Best 2014 Hobby Re-discovery'. Can't wait to see the next few posts, man!

I'm with beefman. This set's re-emergence has inspired me....
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what product is in your next break. Hopefully I can jump in time to claim the Braves too!
ReplyDeleteIf you find a duplicate of that Beck card let me know. I have a mini player collection of him in Cubs attire, and I'd love a card of him in his post-flatulence grace.
ReplyDeleteP-Town: I don't have an extra of that Beck but if I do get one I'll be sure to send it your way!
