At the moment, my desk has eight different packages sitting on it for which I need to write blog posts! I'm also working on whittling my email inbox down in terms of messages that I need to somehow reply to (or take action on). In terms of email, I am proud to say that my inbox now sits at a rather tidy 20 messages. Yesterday, I was able to reach 20 emails by taking care of Adam's Better Know a Blogger questionnaire and post it on my blog. Today, the very same Adam (from Infield Fly Rule) is featured again - but this time it's for a trade package he sent me back in mid-December.
It's a slow slog but I'm catching up!
Adam's package to me contained a bunch of assorted Reds, plus a 1994 Upper Deck Collector's Choice Barry Larkin card.
Amazingly, I already owned the silver signature parallel version of this card but not the original version. As such, Adam has managed to add to my Larkin Collection (which is well over 500 cards now even though I'm also way behind on posting all the Larkin cards that I own).
I'm sensing a theme with how behind I get on things!
Moving on, Adam also sent me a 2008 Topps Stadium Club card which I was initially quite excited about because I thought it was one that I still needed.
Unfortunately, this one ended up being what I refer to as "version A" since the photo on the front of the card and the photo on the back of the card match. I still need "version B" of 'ol Hernan if anyone has one. Speaking of my needs, all of my 2008 Stadium Club needs are posted on my blog - but here they are for those that don't want to do a lot of scrolling: 15, 78, 108(B), 117(B). Amazingly, once I get those four cards my sent will finally be complete!
In addition to the two cards above, Adam sent me a nice smattering of assorted Cincinnati Reds cards. Of those, I chose three notable cards to scan:
1. Tim Crabbe
I generally don't like Bowman cards (something I've said many times on this blog) but in Crabbe's case, it's actually a fairly nice design. Even better, I get to say "Crabby" every time I look at this card. That's a win in and of itself.
2. Gapper
Oh sure, mascots serve little to no purpose at a professional baseball game...but since they exist, it is kind of fun to track down cards of the mascots. The Reds have about eighty-five mascots (or so it seems). Actually, they have Gapper, Mr. Redlegs, and Rosie Red. I could do without Rosie...and Gapper is nothing more than a Philly Phanatic rip-off...but Mr. Redlegs is kind of cool (albeit a rip-off of Mr. Met I guess).
3. Deion Sanders
This is one of the silver parallels from the Upper Deck Special Edition Collector's Choice set which was basically a parallel of the regular Collector's Choice set. That means this is a parallel of a parallel. *head explodes*
We end with one of five Fleer sticker cards that Adam also sent me.
I'm a huge sucker for sticker cards (probably why I enjoyed the 2013 Panini Triple Play box opening so much in our last group break). Besides the Reds' logo (which I love), I also always liked the old Astros logo.
I don't think there is a lot of love for the old Braves logo out there anymore though...
