Group Break: 2012 Panini Prizm - Packs 7 & 8 (The Episode in Which See Who is in the Lead for the 2015 Allen & Ginter Complete Set)

The Panini Prizm box for the group break holds 24 packs.  Tonight's post puts us at the 1/3 mark in terms of box completion.  See, isn't math fun?

Pack 7:

Matt Cain - Giants
Paul Molitor - Blue Jays
Tom Milone - Athletics
MVP13.  Team MVP:  Mike Trout - Angels

I don't think you can go wrong with any Mike Trout card - including an unlicensed insert!  The Team MVP design is actually fairly nice - and yes, like the other inserts we have pulled this one is a bit thicker than your usual base card.

Pack 8:

Dustin Pedroia - Red Sox
Doug Fister - Tigers
Brooks Robinson - Orioles
Jarrod Parker - Athletics

The Athletics pick up another card - their first out of the Prizm box but still a nice turnout for Oakland thus far through the break.

In fact, it is probably worth taking a look at which teams are in the "lead" for the complete set of 2015 Topps Allen & Ginter.  Remember, the complete set goes to the team in the break that does the worst.  By my count, these are the teams currently in contention (though anything can happen yet in the break):

  • Diamondbacks - Fairly weak on base card numbers but 4 parallels/short prints/inserts makes up for that somewhat
  • Rockies - Not a whole lot to write home about here so far
  • Dodgers - The surprise of the break for me so far - only one non-base card of note
  • Giants - One parallel and that's it
  • Mariners - Not a whole lot here either, giving the Rockies a run for their money

And there you have it.  A decidedly west coast bias showing up in the group break so far.  That said, there is a LONG way to go - and even one hit, fancy insert, or something else interesting could easily catapult any of those teams higher up the rankings (and knock a different team down in response).

  1. I...don't know whether I should be happy or sad?

  2. I'm going to vote sad - you should do a Wednesday Wallet Card post about your sadness.

  3. At this point I'm pretty much rooting for a total bust.

Maybe my Group Break Rockies will be like the real 2015 Rockies. Terrible, but not the worst in the Majors.
