Barry Larkin Collection 505: 1999 Pacific Revolution - #39

Barry Larkin
Year:  1999
Brand:  Pacific Revolution
Card number:  39

The Pacific brand seems to be a brand that people either love or hate, you don't hear many people say "meh" about Pacific.  For my money, I thought Pacific had some of the craziest, most inventive ideas (Christmas ornaments, foul pole netting, etc.) - and while many of their attempts fell flat, I always gave Pacific credit for trying something new.

I imagine that the 1999 Pacific Revolution set is a perfect case study into all things Pacific.  For one, you have a card design that is definitely unique (and over-the-top).  You also have something that's impossible to say was done to death before the set was released...and yet, perhaps Pacific turned the crazy all the way up to 10 when they really didn't have to.

No matter how you look at it, we can all agree that the Revolution line is loud - and while this isn't usually my cup of tea, I have to admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for this card!  That's a good thing though since there are three more versions to track down (a retail only red parallel #/299, a hobby only shadow series #/99, and a hobby only premiere date #/49).

  1. The design looks like it was inspired by the Aztecs or Incas.
