Check Out My Cards: Want List Destruction (Part 3)

Welcome to my third post detailing my recent Check Out My Cards purchase.  Yesterday, I showed off the largest pile of cards from any single set.  Today, we take a look at some smaller, but perhaps more impressive, piles of cards.

One of my favorite sets from the middle of the 00s is the 2006 Fleer Greats of the Game set.  For one, the set has a Barry Larkin in it (and a Larkin relic).  But beyond the Larkin, there are a ton of great cards - and lots of fun inserts.  I've been working on the set ever since I first found out about the set (probably around 2008 or so if memory serves).  Over that time, I've made some good progress - but only with my most recent COMC purchase can I start to legitimately see the "light at the end of the tunnel."

First, I was able to land the final Tigers' Greats card that I was missing.

That's Kirk Gibson, and while I think of him as a dodger, Gibson played 12 of his 17 seasons in Detroit.  I'm now only missing one more of the inserts from the various team greats (it's a Yankee though, of course).

I also was able to locate two more of the Decade greats cards which finished off that insert set as well.

My biggest task remaining for the Fleer Greats of the Game set is all of the various Nickname Greats cards.  I'm still missing quite a few of those.

Shifting gears somewhat (but sticking with great players), I found the final four cards that I needed for the 2011 Gypsy Queen Great Ones insert set.

I have to say, knocking off entire lines from my want list is one of the greatest feelings of card collecting!

I still have a few more goodies to show off (including some awesome minis) which I plan to get to in the upcoming days.  Stay tuned for more COMC goodies soon!

  1. Always good to cross some cards off your wantlist. I dont have any A&G but I might be able to help out with some of your older wants.

Cant wait to see what else you got from COMC!
