Baseball Stadiums in LEGO (A Guest Post)

Editor's note:  The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of activities for me, virtually none of which were good (my grandmother was moved to hospice, two weeks of interviews for a position my college is trying to fill, and a giant snowstorm were the main culprits).  Anyhow, when I was contacted by the good folks over at Ninja Brick LEGO News who wanted to do a baseball related guest post on my blog, the timing was pretty much perfect.  This is their post - I hope you enjoy a different take on our favorite sport (and our favorite building brick)!

LEGO Baseball Stadiums are popular builds for MLB fans and the perfect challenge if you are an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO). Baseball stadiums built using LEGO bricks range in complexity, and some stand out above the rest. After reading the Ultimate LEGO Baseball Sets guide by Ninja Brick, you will see one MOC that really catches the eye. It's an exact replica of the original Yankee Stadium from 2008 and took 3 years to build! Sitting at over 45,000 bricks, builders Sean Kenney and a Manhattan gradeschooler have created a true masterpiece. As you will discover below, the fine details are amazing and we feel photos probably can’t do it justice.

New York Yankees LEGO Baseball Stadium MOC
The old LEGO Yankee Stadium is 6 feet wide and 5 feet long. It is built to an approximate scale of 1:150. Sean Kenney and a Manhattan gradeschooler began working on the ambitious build in February, 2006. They worked every weekend until it was finally complete in July, 2009.

The Completed Yankee Stadium LEGO Build
According to Ninjabrick.com, the Yankee Stadium is packed with 1,700 microscale people, however they feel it could be slightly improved by incorporating minifigure spectators instead.

All images are property of Sean Kenney.

Viewing this build from the perspective of a microscale spectator really makes you feel like you are there. As mentioned before, an improvement could be to fill the stadium with minifigures to really bring a packed atmosphere to the LEGO Yankees Stadium.

This interior birds eye view really gives a great perspective of viewing the game from the top tiers of the original Yankee Stadium. Another area for improvement may be to have flat surfaces on the grass (instead of studded). This would give it a more polished and maintained look.

The Finer Details of the Yankees LEGO Baseball Stadium
It’s the finer details of this build that make it the best MOC we’ve ever seen. Some fans have even suggested that the original Yankees LEGO baseball stadium should be on view in the new stadium across the street.

This MOC looks exactly as the Yankees Stadium did in 2008, with all the modifications made up until this date.

Microscale spectators enjoying the game. Again, how much better would this look to have a packed crowd.

Fans of this MOC really liked the advertisement boards, featuring Verizon, Apple, Target etc.

Learning that the scoreboard was created using 1,000 light saber rods really demonstrates the level of detail the builders have gone to. Simply amazing.

This microscale New York City subway runs alongside the stadium.

Another picture of the elevated train behind the stadium, featuring MetroCard machines.

It’s not just for show either, another visual underneath the elevated train tracks that shows everything has detail.
Close Up Images of the Yankee LEGO Stadium

Where are the locker rooms? The seating behind the dugout opens up to reveal them.

Monument park includes monuments to famous players such as Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra and Lou Gherig.

Also included is a Mime artist in the park across the street.

The LEGO baseball stadium features an invisible spectator.

If that’s not enough, how about a basketball court across the street!

The Simpsons also head to the game.

A man with a chainsaw stands inside one of the walls.

Of course, a hidden throne room inside the walls for the manager of the stadium.

No ground would be complete without traffic. Check out the microscale New York City buses and a taxi.

Conclusion

This LEGO baseball stadium is an amazing tribute to the old Yankee Stadium from 2008. The level of detail is phenomenal and it’d be great to see if displayed at the new stadium. It’s a shame there are no close ups of the minifigure players, although we suspect that there are several series 10 fielders and a series 3 batters.

What did you think of this MOC build / work of art? If you know of any baseball MOCs or have created any yourself, we’d like to hear about them.

  1. Insanely cool. I'm always blown away by what people can create with Legos. This is one of the coolest MOCs ever.

  2. That's pretty cool! The piece count is crazy high but I'd vote for this on Lego Ideas.
