Three Sets Come In. How Many Sets Will Make it Out?

Author's note:  I am still taking sign-ups for anyone interested in being part of my (Better) Know a Blogger series for 2019.  All you have to do is fill out a short questionnaire (see here for full details).  I now return you to the regularly scheduled post...

I'm still working my way through the big trade with blog reader Bob.  While I've enjoyed going one set at a time, I think I need to hurry this feature along so that I can get all the cards properly tucked away in their corresponding binders.  Therefore, today I'm going to feature a couple of different sets beginning with 2000 Topps Stadium Club.

My love of Stadium Club is well-documented on this blog.  The only thing that I don't like about the brand is that there always seems to be a fair number of base cards that get short printed - you know, cards such as the Future Stars subset in the 2000 edition of the set (seeded 1:5 packs).

You can probably tell from what remains on my want list for the set which card numbers were short printed!

2000 Topps Stadium Club Wants:
Base:  124, 201, 207, 208, 209, 210, 211, 212, 215, 216, 218, 220, 221, 222, 224, 225, 226, 228, 229, 230, 231, 233, 234, 237, 242, 243, 244, 245, 247, 248, 249, 250

Ugh - so many short prints to track down.  The good news for me is that none of the cards have any real "value" to speak of, it's simply a matter of tracking down a slew of cards that were printed at annoyingly small ratios as compared to the rest of the set.

Sticking with the theme of both year and prospect short prints, the next set that Bob helped me out with was 2000 Fleer/Skybox Metal.

Like Stadium Club, the 2000 Metal set features a bunch of short printed base cards at the end of the set.  The only good news here is that the short prints were a bit easier to find (seeded 1:2 packs rather than 1:5 packs).  That said, I have to admit that I am no longer sure why I bothered trying to collect the 2000 Metal set.  Quite honestly, the design doesn't speak to me and the staggering number of short prints that I still need means I'm still quite a ways off from completing the darn thing.  If I have to make some cuts to my want list at the end of 2019 you can virtually count on the 2000 Metal set to be one of the first to go!

That said, for as long as I can acquire the cards via trade I'll collect them!  I don't plan on removing any uncompleted sets on my want list until the end of this year.

Finally, we dip back one year earlier to 1999 for the 1999 Fleer Sports Illustrated set.

Bob sent me a lone representative for this set - but that's okay since this is definitely a set that I like as much today as I did in 1999!  I actually bought a box of this stuff that I haven't (yet) opened up so while my want list may look large at the moment I'm hoping that the box does some serious damage to my set needs once I get it ripped.  You can probably expect me to rip that box shortly on the blog - but first I need to finish off writing about the big trade with Bob plus a few other smaller trades that have come in over the past few weeks!

  1. Fond memories. All three are sets I have as part of my collection from my childhood. I think I even have that Bernie card.
