Yesterday, I showed off the first part of my haul from Greg over at the The Collective Mind blog. Today, we turn our attention to the second half of the trade envelope!
My collecting choices are weird and varied and I understand that...and by the time you get done seeing what Greg sent me, you'll probably agree with my self-assessment! That said, we'll start off with what probably appears to be a pair of rather boring base cards from Fleer Focus.
A quick look and you'd be right, those are kind of dull. But, you gotta flip them over to the other side.
Yeah, in the Fleer Focus set the Prospect cards are all serially numbered out of 3999. It's a large enough number that I figured I'd try to build the entire base set including those prospect cards but it's proven to be a tough challenge so far! Getting two such cards from the set is much, much appreciated especially when you see how many more cards I still need for the set:
This is another set that looking back on it now, I'm not entirely sure why I decided to build the entire thing. I mean, I know why I went for it originally (I had most of the non-prospect short prints) but I don't think I realized how difficult it was going to be to track down the remaining short prints. I definitely appreciate Greg getting me one card closer to completing this set...the sooner this set gets off my want list, the better as far as I'm concerned since the look and design of the set hasn't aged well!
Turning our attention to some newer stuff, Greg had one more of the World Talent inserts that I needed from 2018 Allen & Ginter.
I buy quite a few boxes of Ginter every year but with the sheer number of inserts, minis, etc. it seems like Allen & Ginter dominates my want list year in and year out. The 2018 set has been particularly troublesome for me since it was released during the time I was trying to raise a newborn baby (so I didn't have much time for trading during the release window which always hurts)! On the bright side, I've done much better with the 2019 Ginter set since I had a bit more time now that my son is a proper toddler.
The final card of this eclectic collection also belongs to 2018 Allen & Ginter but this time it's of the mini variety.
That's one of the awesome World's Hottest Peppers inserts. I actually enjoy cooking a lot so getting a card set dedicated to food items is right up my alley (even if that pepper in the photograph looks inedible). Unfortunately, while I do like spicy foods I find the spicy foods generally don't like me back so I probably won't be eating most of the hot peppers featured in this set. The 7 Pot Douglah is apparently the hottest non-red pepper in the world and it gets its name from the "fact" that one pepper can flavor seven pots of stew. That definitely sounds like a major case of heartburn for me so I think I'll stick with enjoying the cardboard version of the pepper.
Many, many thanks for the awesome trade, Greg! I appreciate you helping me out with so many different sets - an odd mix for sure but I wouldn't want it any other way. After all, that's what keeps collecting cards fun and fresh year in and year out!

No matter how high the print run is, building serial numbered sets is always tough!
ReplyDeleteI remember a older cousins' spouse buying my brother and I some of those 2000 Metal packs as a kid and thinking they were really cool, so I have a nostalgic soft spot in my heart for those as well. Still- not even close to the neatest of the late 90s Metal sets.
