Barry Larkin Collection 712: 2002 Upper Deck MVP - #280

Barry Larkin
Year:  2002
Brand:  Upper Deck MVP
Card number:  280
Black bordered cards generally either make people very happy or very sad.  I know a lot of people think black borders make a card design really "pop" and therefore they love them.  I, on the other hand, see black borders as a perfect way to magnify any flaws, chipping, etc. on the card and therefore generally get sad when I see a set use them.  In the case of 2002 Upper Deck MVP, we are treated to both white borders (on the back) and black borders (on the front), clearly UD was trying to have its cake and eat it too.

In addition to the base card shown above, there is are silver (#/100) and gold (#/25) parallels in existence but as of the time of this post I don't own either of Larkin's parallels to show you.  Despite what I said about black borders above, I do have to admit that I kind of like this card design...in fact, the more I look at it, the more good I find in it - definitely a design that has grown on me over the years (not so much that I'll ever try and collect the full set but it's not a bad looking Barry Larkin card to add to my binder)!
