Box Break Recap: 2000 Pacific Vanguard

I'm back with the second-to-last box break from my latest Breaker's Club.  Today, we are taking a look at one of the boxes that I was most anticipating ripping:  2000 Pacific Vanguard.

This hobby box came with 24 packs with each pack holding four cards.  Of the four cards in each pack, one was a High Voltage insert while the other three were a mix of base and/or inserts.

All of the base cards are printed on nice, thick card stock.  I like the minimilistic front design - if you are wondering about the background colors, NL teams got a blue background while AL teams had red in their background.

As I mentioned above, each pack contains one of the High Voltage insert cards.

The High Voltage cards are every bit as cheesy as you might hope for based on the insert set's name.  I kind of love them, they remind me of when the Fleer/Skybox Metal sets were cool (back when they were using Marvel artists for their backgrounds).

It wouldn't be a 2000s box without a smattering of inserts and parallels - and Pacific didn't disappoint here.  Starting with the inserts, we found this sweet Diamond Architects card of Ken Griffey, Jr.

Seeded 1:25 packs, that card is essentially a box hit.

Next, a pair of Vangaurd Press A.L. Edition cards:

These are printed on a super flimsy "paper" and I guess Pacific was trying to mimic newspaper.  For some reason, the A.L. Edition is a hobby box exclusive - I presume the N.L. version was retail only though I cannot verify that.

Next, our two base parallels - both Green variations which are hobby only.

This time around, it was the NL players who you could only find in Green variation form in hobby packs (and I presume their AL "Green" counterparts were found in retail packs).  Each Green parallel is serially numbered out of only 199.  By the way, I promise these look green in person despite appearing bluish purple in the scan above!

Next, a card that I completely missed during the live box break...and missed again when I first scanned it above for this very post!

I had no idea that I had to look on the back of every card to see if it was a Premiere Date parallel!  This one is numbered out of 135 - and I know that Ben (who is a huge Pudge collector) will be happy to land our lone Premiere Date parallel!  By the way, I did go back through all of the other base card backs to confirm that there were no other "hidden" parallels lurking there.

And finally in what has to be the actual hit of our box - a Tier 3 Green High Voltage parallel of Derek Jeter numbered out of only 99 sets!

That's definitely a nice addition to the Yankee's group break stack...and congrats to Jordan who has New York in this break!

That does it for the box of 2000 Vanguard.  I definitely enjoyed this box rip - and the cards that came out of it!

  1. I like the high voltage cards. Not a big Pacific fan but those I like.

  2. The baseball card gods played a part in the pulling of that Jeter during HOF week. Congratulations to the collector who had the Yankees.

  3. Jeter and Griffey inserts make a pretty good box!
