2025 Topps Allen & Ginter: Box 12 (Ending With a Ripper!)

This is it, my final box of 2025 Topps Allen & Ginter (for real).  I've had this one opened for quite some time, but alas, I had a lot of posts to go through before it was Box 12's time to shine on the blog!  That being said, it might be the final box, but I assure you it wasn't the worst box.  In fact, it might be the best box...yes, that's right.  Even better than the Reggie Jackson red ink, the Buster Posey red ink, and the Barry Bonds auto.

I guess I'll let you decide once you see what all Box 12 held.

Box 12:

Minis:

Five more mini inserts, including the Pacific Footballfish, which is one of the greatest names for a fish that I've ever heard.  This fish is a type of anglerfish, a deep-sea living fish that makes its own light.  Very cool, but also kind of creepy!

Full Size:

I pulled a Gold Foil Filagree of Phil Niekro, #15/50 on the card's front.  As with the other Foil Filagree cards, this one won't be staying in my collection (but I'm happy to pull cards that can help me recoup some of my investment in this year's Ginter set)!

Hits:

Each box promises two hits.  My first hit was this Bryan Reynolds full-size relic.

That's not the Pittsburgh Pirate that you are hoping to pull when you get a Pirates' relic card.  Also, it's a boring grey swatch, pretty much as dull as it gets.

My second hit was marginally better:

That's a James Wood rookie relic, again full-sized, but at least the bit of cloth isn't grey.

And that's it, the two promised hits.  BUT WAIT.

This box wasn't done with only two lousy relics.  No, this box had a certifiable banger as a BONUS HIT for me to end my 2025 Ginter experience on:

Yeah!  That's a double rip card featuring Tony Perez and Rhett Lowder, #38/50 on the card's front.  Each double rip card holds two minis inside, and those minis could be:
  • An exclusive mini parallel
  • An exclusive mini wood parallel
  • An exclusive mini metal parallel
  • A one-of-a-kind sketch card
  • A red mini autograph card
There are a LOT of valuable options that could be lurking inside, but then again, the most common cards are the exclusive mini parallels, which aren't usually worth a whole lot.  As of the time I'm writing this post, I've decided to put this Double Rip card up on eBay, but with a starting bid that is high enough that if I don't get any bites, I'll end up ripping this for myself.

All things considered, this was an amazing year for A&G boxes for me.  I got lucky repeatedly, so much so that I think I made about as much on eBay as I paid for all the boxes...and I'll end up with a full base set plus a healthy chunk of the mini parallels for myself!  It was a blast to rip the boxes, and my luck was much better this year, with only two hits per box, than it had been for the past several years, when you got three hits in a box.  Maybe Topps upped the value quotient for each box this year, or maybe I just got really lucky.  Either way, I'm happy with the 2025 set!

  1. It's been a lot of fun watching you open all this. I wish I was still as excited about the set as you are.

    1. I remember the golden days of Gint-a-Cuffs when it seemed like EVERY blogger was super excited by the set. Now, I don't know if I saw anyone else post Ginter content!

  2. I have enjoyed following these. The minis were very entertaining. A chicken for a state bird? The football fish is cool!

    1. Thanks for following along! This was my best year ever in terms of value opened at least!

  3. By this point someone has got to have figured out how to open a rip card without tearing the card in half down the center. Anyway I'm sorta surprised you're not keeping that.

    1. Yeah, it's a tougher one for me to get rid of (and if Larkin had been on it, I would have kept it for sure). However, I've given up being a team collector for several years, and if I recoup some of the (very) expensive cost of this year's Ginter set then I think that's the prudent move for me!

  4. As a team collector, I'd have to keep the double ripper unripped for myself (if it were a Brave of course).

    1. The Reds have had so many pathetic years that I decided a few years ago that I didn't have a desire to collect a lot of Reds throughout their history! Barry Larkin has enough cards on his own for me to be busy for the rest of my life!

  5. I know it's controversial... but I love the concept of rip cards. Been a fan since 1998 Zenith.
