Return to Sender: Listia Confuses Me Sometimes.

Over the past few months, I've been using Listia as a way to rid myself of some of my extra cards.  In the process, I've accumulated a few credits which I have used to boost my own card collection - and, more often as it turns out, purchase some Lego dudes.

For the most part, my Listia experience has been a good one.  I'm not pleased that they are going to soon make everyone start their auctions at 0 credits (or so it seems), but otherwise it's a fun site which allows me to avoid eBay and PayPal fees altogether.  Although the majority of my experiences have been positive, the last week or so has introduced me to a new problem:  people giving me fake addresses.

I sell my cards on Listia for a relatively low amount of credits, so low in fact that the credit amount sometimes doesn't equal the postage that I need for a plain white envelope.  Despite that, I still always mail the goods (in fact, on Listia member expressed surprise that I mailed a card to him despite it going for something like 10 measly credits).  What's weird though is that in the past week or week-and-a-half, I've had TWO different people provide me with a fake address.  Both envelopes were mailed and both returned to me by the post office...

I don't understand why you'd bid on something and then make up an address.  It's beyond my comprehension.  I guess that's the downside to "fake" money in the form of credits.  To make matters worse, one of the two buyers hassled me for about a week saying I never sent him his cards.  And yes, I double checked the address when the envelope was returned and it matched what he sent me exactly.  Again, I don't get it.

Now, before you start thinking I'm only going to bash Listia...I'm not.  In fact, I have some great Listia news!  I finally tracked down my own copy of one of the Lego guys that I wanted the moment I saw him:  the Hazmat suit guy.

I have no real reason for wanting this particular figure except for the fact that I think he's awesome.

And because of great finds like this, I'll continue to use Listia - and yes, you better believe that I'll continue to use my real address so that I can actually own the items that I purchase.

  1. When I started doing Listia all auctions had to start at zero credits. Then they changed it to where you could put a lowet amount. I will probably list a lot less stuff when it goes back to starting at zero.

  2. I've received only one RTS. It was my fault and I addressed it right and sent it off. I start all my auctions low -- not at zero -- but low enough that I think people will bid. The zero thing doesn't bother me too much.

  4. It has been a while but through Ebay I have had stuff returned from fake addresses. One was a book that I had on Ebay for ages and ages and was glad when it finally sold. Then it came back. ?ugh! The address(s) matched what I was given, and when I tried to email the buyer to tell them their item was returned due to a bad address I would get no reply.

After waiting a reasonable amount of time I usually relist. Lately though I haven't had much up on Ebay and I'm slowly starting to put stuff back up. Gotta get that book back up there too.

At Listia I only in the last few weeks joined. so far I have only bid on a couple of things and lost. Only have 505 credits. Haven't listed anything yet. I think they need some more options of categories and people need to be careful which category they list in. Also as with Ebay most "overprice" their stuff. Since the "credits" are not "Dollars" it appears more obvious when you see things listed at "19,000 credits"
