A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

UD Past Time Pennants Countdown: The Best of the Bottom Half!

I've enjoyed going through the 2005 Upper Deck Past Time Pennants set and ranking the cards from best to worst.  Seeing as how today is November 15th, that means we've hit the middle of the month - and with it, the middle of the countdown.  Which cards will make up the top half?  How about the top 10?  You'll have to wait and see...

#48:  Bobby Doerr

According to the back of the card, Doerr is the only Red Sox player to hit for the cycle twice.  That's not the most exciting bit of trivia that I've ever heard but I still appreciate Upper Deck trying in their write-ups.  I also appreciate the fact that this photo was taken right before a blizzard hit town.

#47:  Robin Roberts

I wish I knew what was going on in this photo.  Is it real or staged?  Is it during a game?  Warm-ups?  I don't know.  There are fans but the scoreboard appears to be blank.  On the other hand, there's some blur in the photo which leads me to believe that Roberts actually followed through on his motion (something you don't do for a posed shot typically).  So many questions!

#46:  Johnny Podres

Podres gets the unfortunate honor of being the last card eliminated from the top 50% of the set.  This card is a good card, some even might say a great card, but for me it's just a touch too creepy to be ranked any higher.  The image looks like a painting (which would be fine if that's what Upper Deck was trying to do) but it simply sticks out like a sore thumb when compared to the rest of the Past Time Pennants set.  I want to like this card more, but I can't...and so it remains one spot away from the top half.

Of course, that means that beginning tomorrow we move into the top half of the set.  Want to see who didn't make the top half?  Here's my bottom half - in order!
