On Sunday, I posted part 1 of a not-so-recent trade with Tom over at Waiting 'til Next Year. Tom sent me a pair of team bags full of Reds. On Sunday, I went through the bag labeled "2013 Reds." For today, let's look at the second bag (that which is labeled "pre-2013 Reds").
As usual when I get an assorted bunch of cards, I like to do a quick little countdown of my favorites. Since I'm aiming for consistency between the two posts, I decided to once again feature my favorite five cards in all their splendid Redlegs glory!
#5: Paul O'Neil
This is a cool card not because of the photo per se (Studio images are generally boring or creepy). No, this one is cool because of the jersey that O'Neil is rocking - that's an old wool Reds jersey it appears! On the back of the card the reader learns that O'Neil's favorite TV shows are Gilligan's Island and I Dream of Jeannie. I guess the poor guy didn't get anything other than Nick at Nite on TV back in the 90s.
#4: Pete Rose
Rose is admittedly a tool, but as I've said before on this blog, he's the Reds' tool which makes him at least somewhat more palatable. I won't ever turn down a Pete Rose card - especially a licensed one (I'm looking at you Panini).
#3: Jay Bruce
Speaking of Panini! This is actually a pretty darn cool card - the stadium lights are done well here - it's simple enough that it's surprising to me that it hasn't done before. I can also (almost) overlook the fact that Bruce appears to be about to put on his Santa outfit over that plain red t-shirt.
#2: Barry Larkin All-Star
The fake marble effect screams 90s to me - and this card is one of those early 90s set that actually didn't age all that poorly. As a kid, I never owned the Larkin All-Star card from this set but I did have a couple of different players - and I always though that the design was pretty cool (and totally different from most of the other sets out there at the time).
#1: Barry Larkin Topps Gold Parallel
Any player collector will tell you that whenever you acquire some sort of parallel of your player you are extremely happy. With all of the parallels out there, it can be downright impossible to know which ones you are missing (or even which ones are in existence)! Of course, most people are plenty aware of the Topps Gold parallels (the original parallels in my eyes)!

Crazy. The only one of those cards I actually remember is the Jay Bruce. I think my memory is slipping away from me. I'm glad you liked them!
