A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

Delivery Time! The Raz Card Blog Says "Ni!" (Plus a Quick Giveaway)!

A few days (weeks?) ago, I received an awesome surprise mailing from Chris over at The Raz Card Blog.  Chris and I have exchanged a number of packages back and forth - to the point where we don't really do a lot of "prearranged trades" anymore.  Instead, we simply mail back and forth when we have something that the other person might like.

This time around, it's my turn to get some cool stuff - and it was indeed a great package of cards.

First up, Chris knocked off eight more cards from my 2013 Topps Chrome want list.

This gets my want list down to a manageable 13 cards:
2013 Topps Chrome Want:Base:  1, 10, 16, 32, 55, 66, 70, 119, 133, 136, 164, 210, 220
Now, I certainly appreciated the Chrome cards - especially since it gets me tantalizingly close to being able to complete a set a totally remove it from my want list.  That said, the Chrome cards paled in comparison to the final card of the package.

Behold!

That's an original Allen & Ginter fish card - and according to Chris' included note, the Herring reminds him of the knights who say "Ni!" in the Monty Python film.  If you don't get the reference, you can watch the video below (from YouTube).  You'll have to wait 'til the end of the video for the Herring to make an appearance.

A big thank you to Chris for the great cards!!

In fact, I was blown away by the surprise inclusion of the Allen & Ginter fish card.  Even better, it was a fish card that I still needed - I now have 34 of the 50 fish cards from the 1889 set!!

Because of Chris' great generosity, I decided it would be a good time to pay it forward.  The last package that I had sent off to Chris had a bunch of my buddy Ryan's custom Munnatawket mini cards in it.  I know that Chris enjoys that custom set a lot - and I know that many other people that I've traded with have liked the set too.  So, here's the giveaway:

I have scanned 10 different custom minis from the set.

  • The first person to comment on this post with a card choice gets the card of their choice.
  • The second person to comment also gets the card of their choice (provided the first person didn't take it).
  • Finally, the LAST person to comment on the post gets ALL eight of the remaining cards.

Some rules:

  • The giveaway begins when this blog post goes live (duh).
  • The giveaway ends at 11:59 PM EST on Monday, February 9, 2015.
  • You may "enter" as many times as you'd like - i.e., you can try to be the last commenter and if someone arrives after you, you may then leave a new comment after that person in order to be last again.
  • If this particular blog post ends up with 100 or more comments by the close of the giveaway, I'll send another package full of custom minis out to one random commenter (who otherwise wouldn't have won a prize).
  • A different person must finish first and second.  However, the first or second commenter is also eligble to be the final commenter and thus win two prizes!
  • Since it's a contest run by me, I'll probably also include a few other "real" cards if I have any that I think will interest you!
  • Good luck, have fun!

  8. JediJeff: The rules were the first person to comment with a card choice gets that card. You were the first to comment with a card choice so the Gretzky is yours.

Richard Nebe Jr. was the second person to comment with a card choice so he gets the Cliff Lee.

The final 8 are going to whoever comments last (and let's not make that person be me)!! Both Richard Nebe Jr. and JediJeff are eligible to be the final comment as well!

  33. I am predicting Play at the Plate to be the winner... (if the contest ended at 11:59, his was the last comment before the end...) Either way, I was sleeping blissfully at the time! congrats to whom ever won!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. We have a winner! (Three actually but the first two were decided a long time ago.) Roger is the winner as my intention with the rules were that you had right up to (but not including) midnight to write a reply. I do agree with Richard that the rules were slightly unclear so I'm going to send a consolation prize to Play at the Plate as well since he was the last comment before 11:59.
