2015 Topps Allen & Ginter: Box 3 - Packs 9 - 12 (The Miracle Kitchen Drinking Game)

After this post, we will be at the halfway point of box #3.  So far, the only real card of note was the autograph...and even that was underwhelming if I'm being honest.  Let's hope the box picks up soon!

Box 3:
Packs 9 - 12:

Although I ended up with another three short prints, the highlight of the base cards for me is the card of Mike Mills.  Mills was a founding member of the band R.E.M. - a band that I used to love when I was in high school.  In fact, I think I own more R.E.M. cds than any other band to this day!

My minis this time around included a black bordered Matt Holliday, a regular back Dalton Pompey, and an A&G back Victor Martinez.  As I've said already, I have no interest in the base minis (except maybe the Reds) so all three are available.  What I do have interest in, though, is the mini insert cards.  I ended up with one this time around - another First Ladies card.

Margaret Taylor sounds like a bit of a lazy first lady - she put most of the main entertaining duties on the shoulders of her daughter while she snuck off to entertain family and close friends only in a quiet sitting room.

I think I have a new winner for "creepiest card in the set" now that I've opened these packs...

That's a super creepy Leprechaun card from the Menagerie of the Mind insert set.  According to the card back, Leprechauns used to be clad in red, not green (with green only taking over in the 20th century).  It's interesting to me how legends sort of shift over time!

Finally, we get another one of the What Once Would Be cards.

These have been rather elusive through 2.5 boxes!  The card is actually based on a 1957 RCA/Whirlpool promotional film which you can find on YouTube (link)!  That's pretty cool - and it is even cooler that some of the stuff in that "miracle kitchen" actually became reality over time!

Note:  If you want to get super drunk, play this drinking game:  Take a drink every time the lady in the video says "RCA/Whirlpool Miracle Kitchen."  Wowsers.

  1. Love the Mills card; I've thought about starting a musician/band card collection in the past few months, but I don't need more things to spend money on! My favorite R.E.M. song has to be Radio Free Europe or Driver 8
