Buying 120 Minis at Once #GinterCrazy

Last week, I posted the contents of the four hobby boxes of 2019 Allen & Ginter that I was able to buy for myself.  During the rip, I mentioned a number of times that I'd be chasing after all of the various insert sets including all of the mini sets (the most fun part of Ginter typically if you ask me)!

Well, the insert minis seem to be seeded about 4-6 per hobby box so it's safe to say that busting a few boxes isn't the way to collect those set.  Thus, enter eBay!

That's right, I decided to splurge and make a large bulk purchase of 2019 A&G minis from the 'bay.  The lot of cards arrived the other day and it's safe to say that I wasn't disappointed.  Behold the mini goodness:

That's 120 minis from this year's set all packaged quite nicely.  Now, there are a number of duplicates within the lot (which I knew heading into the purchase) but I'm hoping to turn the extras into trades for the remaining minis that I'm still missing.

While I'm not going to scan all 120 cards, I will show off a few of my favorites.  First though, here are the minis sorted into the various insert sets.

The largest pile is the stack of Collectible Canines - the most common mini set this year as well as the largest (in terms of number of cards).  The rest of the lot was a nice smattering of minis from the other five main mini sets, including Dreams of Blue Ribbons which was a set that I only managed to pull one mini from during my box rips!

Of all the minis in the lot, the selection of my favorite mini was super easy:

I love golden retrievers (we have our own golden retriever who is now a little over eight years old).  The back of the card states that goldens are "often cited as the perfect family pet" and I couldn't agree more.  Our puppy (she'll always be a puppy in my eyes) is simply wonderful.  I know everyone thinks their dog is the best but everyone else is wrong, my dog is the best.

Moving away from the dogs, I also liked a number of other minis including pretty much all of the Chugging Along set.

I'm a huge fan of trains - especially LEGO trains (for which I now own more than I might be willing to admit on this blog right now).  I even build myself a little LEGO tunnel complete with a mini operation (and yes, that includes a mining tram).  The mine train card here is great and love the way the trains go off into the distance using perspective skills that one often learns in elementary art classes.

Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't show off at least one of the In Bloom minis.

I'm not exactly a huge fan of flowers or anything but I love the bright, vibrant colors used with this particular mini set.  It's such a stark contrast to the rest of the set (minis or otherwise) and I approve!

Obviously, getting all of these minis put a serious dent into my want lists (which was the whole point of the purchase).  I'm still missing a few from some of the sets though - so please check out my want list and maybe we can make a trade.

  1. A friend of mine just bought a golden retriever. They're so cute... and I love their personalities. Looks like I'll have to track down one of these as well. Best of luck on your mission to build all of these mini sets. I'm sure they'd look awesome displayed in a binder.
