A Card 135 Years in the Making!

My card collecting interests are admittedly all over the place.  I tend to go head over heels for sets like Topps Allen & Ginter while also enjoying some of the shiny sets from the late 90s.  I love retro inspired stuff like Heritage and Archives while also digging die-cuts and other oddities from brands like Pacific.  In short, I like a lot of different things - frankly, that's true for most aspects of my life (hobbies, music, school subjects, you name it).

All that said, even within card collecting as a broad category my interests are scattered about...and in this case, quite literally in that the last few weeks I've been consumed by the newest of the new (2023 Ginter) and yet today we have to back nearly 140 years to another set that I'm working on.  Specifically, I recently grabbed another needed card for my 1888 Allen & Ginter City Flags set build!

The 1888 City Flags set contains a total of 50 cards and with the flag of Leghorn now in hand, I am pleased to announce that I own 44 of the 50 cards!

Allen & Ginter City Flags (N6) Wants:
Catalonia
Nice
Rotterdam
Rouen
Saint-Etienne
Toulouse

Today, I finally got around to putting my City Flags set in a binder (I had to buy a new box of 15-pocket pages, hence the delay).  After sorting through the various cards that I've purchased over the past few years, I ended up with a decent sized pile of duplicates from the City Flags set as well:

Obviously, none of the cards are in great condition...but what do you want from pieces of cardboard that are 135 years old?!  I'd love it if I could swing a trade for the remaining cards that I'm missing...but since that's probably unlikely I'm guessing I'll end up listing my duplicates on eBay and then hopefully use that money to acquire the last few cards I need for my set!

  1. This is an incredibly entertaining pursuit to follow along with. Good luck getting those last 6 cards!

  2. Yup, pretty cool. ... I have a number of extra 15-pockets.

  3. How much are you looking for the Mecca card? I think I have an ebay alert set up for it but if the price is right I'd rather deal with you and cut out all the fees (and shipping since you can throw it on my breakers club stack)

  5. This is another really nice one. No write-up of Livorno though? You must've been pressed for time.
