Board Game Friday: June 2025 Board Game Arena Plays

With June in the books, I am now able to tabulate all of my board game plays over on Board Game Arena (aka BGA).  I love the fact that BGA allows me to play a variety of games that I otherwise wouldn't get to the table.  I also appreciate the fact that I can play a lot of games without dealing with any of the set-up or tear down!  Speaking of lots of games, here's what I got to the virtual table in June 2025:

In total, I played 89 games, winning 40 of them.  That's good for a 44.9% win rate, not bad considering many of the games were with more than one other player.

I didn't play many new games; instead, I mostly returned to old favorites.  However, there were two games worth highlighting.  First is Knarr, a game that I own (and have played) in person, but last month was the first time I played the game online.

Knarr is a set collection card game, ostensibly about Vikings, though you mostly pay attention to the symbols on the cards.  It's a fun game that has grown on me now that I've played it online a few times (I'll admit, it wasn't a true "hit" when I played it in person).

The only truly new-to-me game was Next Station: London.

This is a flip-and-write game that was so good, I went out and bought a physical copy in order to be able to play with my son.  He enjoys this game a lot as well.  In Next Station: London, you create four different colored metro (underground subway) lines using four different colored pencils.  To do so, cards are flipped over one at a time.  You must use your colored pencil to draw a line to the next station that shares a shape with the card that was flipped over.  Once you are done with one color, everyone swaps pencils and you begin drawing in your second color line, then third color, then fourth.  Of course, lines cannot cross (but they can meet at stations, which is advantageous).  In Next Station:  London, you also get bonus points for crossing the river (which thematically makes no sense to me, but oh well).  The player with the highest score at the end wins.

All things considered, I'd call this past month of online gaming a success.  I'm still enjoying playing some of my favorite BGA games (Lost Ruins of Arnak, Azul, 7 Wonders Duel), but it's also nice to dabble in some other games (and even learn a new game every now and then)!  Here's to even more virtual tabletop gaming in July!
