Board Game Friday: October and November 2025 Board Game Arena Plays

As a professor, the months of October and (most) of November are some of the busiest times at work.  By that point, the semester is in full gear, meetings are happening all the time, and students tend to visit office hours more than ever.  With full days at work, then grading and lesson planning at night, my online boardgaming time definitely took a hit.  As such, I'm looking at the combined stats for October and November:

The top of my "most played games" has been fairly consistent all year.  Lots of 7 Wonders Duel and lots of Lost Ruins of Arnak.  Azul has quickly joined that tier of games that I'll play online daily as well!

In total, I played 95 games across October and November.  On the bright side, I won 40 of those (good for a 42% winning percentage, not bad considering many of the games were with 3+ players)!

I didn't try many new games, though I did learn Altay:  Dawn of Civilization on BGA.

Altay is a deck-builder game with some area control aspects.  In the game, you play as a slightly asymmetric faction vying for dominance on a shared map.  I enjoyed this game so much, I went out and got myself a physical copy for my collection!

The other new-to-me game that I tried was Cartographers.

This was actually a game that I learned for possible inclusion in one of my courses (my Mathematics of Games and Gambling course).  Unfortunately, while the game isn't exactly complicated, it was much more complicated than I could possibly explain and have students play in a 65-minute class period.  The game itself is a flip-and-write game, and while it's fun, I don't think it will go down as my all-time favorite game in its genre.

That does it for the past couple of months of online boardgaming fun!
