Delivery Time! Topps Now from Back Then...

Back when the Reds clinched a return to the playoffs, I ordered the Topps Now card celebrating the achievement.

For shipping reasons (plus the fact that I had an online coupon), I ended up ordering ten copies of the same card, all of which show Elly celebrating with the Reds' third base coach JR House.

For those paying careful attention, you'll notice I said 10 cards, but there are only nine in the above scan.  That's because my tenth card was a "LUCKY HIT" according to the paperwork that accompanied the cards.

That tenth card was the star of the package:

That's an Orange Foil parallel numbered out of only 25 copies!

I think the general concept of the Topps Now set is cool.  It's neat to have cards celebrating specific moments of the MLB season.  In the above cards' case, the stated print run was 1,432, which sounds like a lot until you realize card #770 Shohei Ohtani had over 18,000 copies produced!  I do think the cards are generally too expensive, but isn't everything these days?  Nonetheless, I can't complain since that Orange Foil parallel is so nice (actually, the quality of the Topps Now cards in general is top-notch)!
