Quick Hits - Volume XXIV - My Bailout Plan

It's baaaaaaack! My version of Quick Hits is simply what I think about certain issues. Quick Hits gives me a chance to talk about my team, my life, or anything else on my mind. If you aren't prepared for that, leave now! Without further ado, here we go!

The bailout plan: I fully admit that I don't understand the nuances of the economy. I'm sure that there must be a good reason for the bailout - but is that really the right answer for our economy? Does bailing out the companies that "failed" because of greed and stupidity fit the American model of "survival of the fittest"? In a word, no. You know what would "fix" the economy, take the 300 billion and give each American citizen a million dollars and use the rest to build new schools, roads, and other necessary infrastructure. Imagine that, each American wakes up tomorrow morning with their personal winning lottery ticket. Americans could instantly pay off their bills, pay for their kid's education, and still have enough left over to go buy some consumer goods. That would be a bailout the public could benefit from...bailing out the coorporate bigwigs who have already made millions using taxpayer money is not.

Ad Sense: I have been blogging on Blogger for about 4 months now, and the entire time I have had Ad Sense ads displayed on my page. According to Ad Sense I have had 3,145 page impressions but only 13 clicks (which is worse than half a click per 100 impressions). As you can probably guess, I haven't exactly earned enough money to retire through Ad Sense, and since Ad Sense doesn't even pay a person until they have earned over $100 I'm not sure I'll ever see any cash from the blog. While I certainly don't blog for money (good thing), I've been debating about whether the ads are even worthwhile to have on my page. Does anyone ever look at them (clearly no one clicks them)?

Baseball: As I write this, the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins for the final playoff spot as AL Central Champions. While I'm happy for the White Sox (and especially happy for Ken Griffey Jr.) I still think the White Sox are the least likely team to win the American League crown. It would be interesting though if both the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox made the World Series.

Nice quick hits. But you need to re-do the math on that bailout. $300 billion divided amongst 300 million Americans would be $1000, not $1 million.

    Good stuff though.

  2. karmic: Yeah, I should have specified that we give 1 million to each of the "middle class" Americans. I meant to exclude children and those who don't "need the money"... Even so, a full million dollars might be a bit of a stretch!

    1) i don't do the adsense thing, i disabled it.

    2) this whole bail out thing, like i've said to me, is living a BAD version of "it's a wonderful lfe."

i don't now, nor do i ever want to pay for some dbag that pulled a HUGE enron on the ppl. they employ. these CEO's will leave the bailout with almost 18 mill & 5 houses (well one guy at least) FK that......take your 18 mill & your 5 houses & stock the grocery pantry of the "little" ppl. that ran your shtty company for so long & lost everything!!

my great great grandkids will be paying for this mess, one way or the other, this is going down in the history books .....thanks for the morning read Freds~

  4. If they want to bail out the people that screwed others or people that took on loans that were way unrealistic, maybe they should give everybody who is actually paying their bills a 0.5% cut on their interest rate.

The AdSense thing doesn't bother me or make the site look bad so I say it doesn't hurt to leave it up.

Interesting quick hits as it tis the season for sports and politics.

White Sox got it done with three big wins. Kudos to them!

Financial credit situation is an important one ... and one that most of us don't understand because of our lack of knowledge about financial and credit markets in a global environment.

Interestingly, people are against the "bailout" but want Washington to protect their investments. Hmmmm ... Houston, do we see a problem?

  7. ck: I agree. Although I realize that the economy needs some major, MAJOR help, I cannot support paying a single penny to those who got rich by being greedy (and stupid) in the first place.

Lester: Yeah, I think that people that caused the mess ought to lose every penny they made over the years. Of course, we all know that will never happen.

Afrankangle: Well, I certainly want my money protected by the government, but I can't agree to any plan that lets the greedy offenders who caused this mess in the first place to walk away free and rich. Sure, it's a vindictive stance to take, but that's how I roll I guess in this case!

  8. I feel you on the AdSense front. Been averaging about 1000-1500 hits a month for five months (6,335 total) and have a whopping 94 cents to show for it. Maybe I need to convert to a porn site.
