2013 Group Break #2: Topps Tribute Pack #5

It's time to open the fifth (of six) packs from the 2013 Topps Tribute box.  I have to admit, I still like these cards - though as a set collector getting fewer than 24 base cards (since you get some parallels) in a single box makes me sad.

Since I haven't shown the backs of the cards, today's post will feature a bit of a write-up for each player based on the information on the back of the card.

Pack 5:
14.  Felix Hernandez - Mariners

Going into 2013, Hernandez had a total of nine career shutouts...five of them came in 2012 (including his perfect game).

75.  Reggie Jackson - Athletics

Reggie is one of only six players with at least 10 World Series home runs.  That's impressive company!

92.  Jurickson Profar - Rangers

Profar hit a home run and doubled in his first two MLB at bats.  Not as impressive as 10+ World Series home runs, but still impressive!

83.  Blue Parallel:  Larry Doby - Indians #78/99

Doby was the first African-American to play in the American League and the first African-American to hit a home run in the World Series.  I can't help but to wonder why we hear tons about Jackie Robinson (rightfully so) and yet Doby seems to toil in relative obscurity.  I guess he ought to be in the Allen & Ginter "Portraits of Penultimacy" set.

TT-CFI:  Relic:  Cecil Fielder - Tigers & Yankees #96/99

Woah!  The Tribute Transitions relics are seeded 1:31 packs making this another nice pull out of the box.   I was a bit worried at first when I saw that two different teams were featured (I hate having to do team randomizations) but as luck would have it, DutchCardGuy has both the Yankees and the Tigers in the break!  This card was meant for him I guess!

There's one pack remaining - I hope to have all the group break cards in the mail by the middle-to-end of the upcoming week!
