UD Past Time Pennants Countdown: Good Intentions

When I started writing the posts for this countdown, the calendar read "July."  Now, it's November and I'm writing this a few days before it will go live on the blog.  I had good intentions back in the summer - create a series of posts that would be (hopefully) interesting to read.  In addition, the Past Time Pennants Countdown was supposed to be something that I could publish well ahead of time since I wouldn't have to tie in current happenings.

You know what they say about good intentions.

(Actually, I don't know what they say about good intentions, is there a saying about them?)

Let's return to the countdown:

#57:  Bert Blyleven

The #57 and #56 spots were a tough call as both cards feature two players in almost identical poses.  I actually like the framing on the Blyleven card a bit better than the next card but...

#56:  Early Wynn

...you can't beat that scary, vacant, maybe even drunk stare that Early is giving the camera.  Couple that with trash on the field (or are those his old beer bottles) and you have a great old timey card!

#51:  Larry Doby

We conclude today's portion of the countdown with another black and white photo - but this one is much "classier" than the previous two.  The photographer managed to get Doby looking happy - and simultaneously provided a great frame for the photo with the grandstands in the background.  I think if I made this countdown on a different day that Mr. Doby could have cracked the Top-50.  However, the next batch of cards are all incredibly strong pieces of cardboard in their own right...so maybe "on the outside, looking in" is where Larry belongs in terms of this countdown.

Good morning, Sir! I'm working my way through college by going door-to-door and...

Oh, wait. That's the wrong speech.

I'm a fellow blogger who's down on his luck. Blogrolls refuse to recognize the 5 posts I've published since last Friday. Since the latest involves a custom card of the newest Cincinnati Red, and since you are a "fan of reds" (and not a "fan o' freds"), I'm going blog to blog and soliciting my post:
