A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

UD Past Time Pennants Countdown: Kirby, Carl, and Mike Join the Countdown!

Welcome back to the 2005 Upper Deck Past Time Pennants Countdown of the best cards in the set.  Yesterday, I began the countdown by looking at the three worst cards in the set.  With those out of the way, we get to the next three cards in our countdown.

#87.  Kirby Puckett

Much like the Will Clark card (which ranked one slot worse than Puckett), Kirby's card isn't terrible.  It shows marginally more action than Clark's card which was what pushed Kirby ahead slightly.  As you'll see throughout the countdown, sometimes even a small edge is enough to boost a card.

#86.  Carl Yastrzemski

Sometimes I think there should be a baseball blogging Hall of Fame. One of the requirements to the Hall of Fame would be to type Yastrzemski's name twenty times without A) looking it up, and B) misspelling it.  Somehow, I think the Hall of Fame would be rather empty.

#85.  Mike Schmidt

Although you wouldn't know it from the first six cards in the countdown, the '05 Upper Deck Past Time Pennants set includes both color and black and white photos.  Maybe it's my "old player bias" showing through, but the worst six cards are all of the color variety.  Or, perhaps, black and white photos allow a bit more imagination, and thus they instantly seem better since you get to imagine the image as you'd like it to be.  I don't know, but I can tell you this:  It's going to be quite a few spots before you find the first black and white photo in the countdown!
