Group Break 1: Finishing off the 2000 Topps Stadium Club Chrome Box! (With a Full Box Recap)

Earlier today, I said that my goal was to finish off the 2000 Stadium Club Chrome box - the first of five boxes to be completed in the group break.  In order for that to happen, I must open the final two packs of the box - so let's get right to it!

Pack 23:
23.  Delino DeShields - Orioles
105.  Vladimir Guerrero - Expos

The Nationals/Expos slot hasn't had a lot of base cards so far - but what they lack in quantity at least this Guerrero helps in terms of quality.
150.  Greg Maddux - Braves
187.  Frank Thomas - White Sox

There you go JediJeff - another super sweet card for the White Sox!
238.  Corey Myers - Diamondbacks

Pack 24:
45.  Paul O'Neil - Yankees

This pack happened to have four great photos - but I had to pick my favorite two to scan.  One was this near collision of O'Neil and a fellow Yankee (Williams maybe)?
96.  Keith Osik - Pirates

This is another great looking card - and a pretty spectacular play at the plate card!  Osik is holding the poor LA Dodger guy away from the plate - no way to tell if Osik has the ball in that glove or not though.
179.  Mike Bordick - Orioles
189.  Mike Benjamin - Pirates
249.  Brad Baker - Red Sox

And with that, the first box is officially busted!  What do you think of the 2000 Stadium Club Chrome set?  I think you'll like the cards better when you hold them in person (most scan terribly).  I also think that this would be a pretty cool set to put together - top notch photography combined with chrome-y goodness...hard to beat that!

As for our particular box, I think we did quite well.  The final tally (with the stated pack seeding in parenthesis):

  • 2 base refractors (1:12)
  • 1 sequentially numbered First Day Issue (1:33)
  • 1 True Colors (1:32)
  • 1 Visionaries (1:18)
  • 1 Visionaries Refractor (1:90)
  • 1 Capture the Action (1:18)
  • 2 Eyes of the Game (1:16)
  • 1 Clear Shots (1:24)

Since the box only had 24 packs, we beat the odds in multiple insert sets (and we didn't get "cheated" in any insert sets)!  When it comes to having a group break box, this is exactly the kind of thing I hope for.  We had a great insert distribution, including some rare ones and of the ten inserts, eight different teams were represented (Diamondbacks, Braves, Mets, Rockies, Braves x2, Tigers, Royals, and Yankees x2).  I think the 2000 Stadium Club Chrome box set a high bar for this break - will any other box be able to top this one?

The only way to find out is to keep checking back here at Nachos Grande - I'll be busting more packs as the week progresses...perhaps even cracking open one of the two unopened group break boxes before the week is up!
