Digging Into the Box VI: The Champions Edition!

This past weekend, I saw my brother (the same one who sent me the giant box of cards a couple of weeks ago)...and wouldn't you know it - he had a second equally full box of cards for me.  We also traded a couple of LEGO Minifigures but that will have wait for my LEGO-centric blog.

I still haven't fully worked my way through the first box of cards though, so for the moment the second box will remain mostly untouched while I finish off box #1.  Today, I get to make a large dent in the box because I removed this gigantic stack of cards.

Yep, those are all 2012 Goodwin Champions cards.  I was tempted to scan 'em all (9 at a time) and leave it at that but instead I decided to pick out a couple that caught my eye and show only those.

We begin our tour with a Y.E. Yang card.

Yang is a golfer (and I know virtually nothing about golf) but this is a cool looking card - and it makes Yang look like a bit of a bad*ss.  Of course, if Yang really were good he'd only need a single club instead of that monstrosity of a club bag.

We continue with the golfers theme with the next card as well - Annika Sorenstam.

Annika is a golfer that I've at least heard of so that's a start.  I'm not entirely sure why she is hitting golf balls into the river (harbor?) in this picture but hey...I guess golfers get bored too.

Speaking of boring, the third card features a sport that I find insufferably boring:  pro basketball.

However, the Larry Bird caught my eye because Bird actually looks like he's on a junior high soccer team in the photo...and playing in the jungle for some reason.  Nothing about this card screams basketball...and that's probably why I like it!

While I haven't decided for sure yet whether or not I'll try to collect the entire Goodwin Champions set (and thus none of the above cards are available for trade - at least not yet), I do know that I won't be chasing the Military Machines insert set.  My brother included four more of those and all are available for trade!

Thanks for the great box of cards brother (and for the second box which I haven't even begun to dig into).  As for anyone else, if you want to trade - or if you are interested in any of the Military Machines cards, check my want list and shoot me an email!

Note:  I'll also have the next post in my ongoing PWE Theme Week later today, so be sure to check back then!

  1. I need those military machine cards. I've got a few Larkins for you that I picked out at my LCS buddy's house.
