Delivery Time! One of (Many) Recent Trade Packages from Jaybarkerfan's Junk! Vintage Galore!

Over the past few months, I've been the lucky recipient of a few different packages from Wes over at Jaybarkerfan's Junk.  Some of the packages have been prize winnings, others basically "free to me" in exchange for me coming with something equally awesome for Wes.  Unfortunately for Wes, I've been quite slow on my end - but I promise that I'm getting together a return package soon!

For now though, let's look at one of the smaller envelopes (this one arrived back in January).  In fact, January was such a long time ago that I don't even remember the exact reason for this lot - but that's ok because it's full of vintage goodies (and vintage is always appreciated no matter what)!

The envelope that Wes sent me contained 12 vintage cards in various states of disrepair.  Some were in quite nice shape - such as this Ray Nitschke card of the Packers from 1970.

In fact, I'd go so far to say that the card is pack fresh over 40 years later!  In addition to the Nitschke, there was one other football card in the lot - this Tom Fears LA Rams card.

I have to say, a last name of "Fears" is pretty much perfect for a football player, don't you think?  Fears once caught 18 passes in a single game against Green Bay in 1950 according to the back of the card.

Although I don't collect football cards, I can appreciate some good vintage when I see it!  That said, I appreciate good baseball vintage even more - and that's where the other ten cards in the package come in.

As I mentioned already, the cards arrived in various conditions - and sometimes cards in the worst condition have the most stories to tell.

The Mel Roach card looks somewhat rough on the front of the card - but it's the back of the card where the real fun can be found.  You've got three major rips - one right over the card number and two near the edges of the card.  There's also a healthy smattering of white paint on the back which I can't help but wonder who paints with baseball cards right underneath them anyhow?!  On the bright side, the corners are in amazing shape.

In all actuality, only the Roach card was really in terrible shape - the remaining cards in the envelope simply were loved - some had bent corners, most had healthy creases, and one even had a corner cut off!  That said, I can't help but scan a few more cards simply because old cardboard is so much fun.

The Ellis Burton card is certainly green....

...and the Joe DeMaestri is certainly red!

Finally, we end with my favorite card in the bunch:  Bob Keegan.

A great design and an awesome looking card make for a perfect ending to the package of vintage cards!  Many thanks for the great cards Wes - and yes, you can expect a return package from me in the near future!

As for anyone else - if you want to trade, check out my want list and make an offer!
