A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

2015 Topps Jumbo Case Group Break: Box #5: Pack-by-Pack (Packs 4 - 5)

While everyone else will be freaking out about today being Friday the 13th, we will be freaking out because we found a case hit in our 2015 Topps Series 1 Jumbo Case group break!

Pack 4:

Pack 4 does indeed hold the case hit, but before we get to that we need to pay our due respects to Derek Jeter as he walks off into the sunset.  Wouldn't it be great if Topps didn't make a single other Derek Jeter card for the rest of the year?  It'd make this checklist card a lot more special.

The fourth pack held three different parallels - one was a Mark Reynolds (Brewers) rainbow foil that won't scan worth a darn so it doesn't get pictured.  The second parallel was another gold parallel - this time of Masahiro Tanaka of the Yankees.  The card is numbered 1587/2015.  I'd say that Tim B. did quite well with this pack since he claimed the Yankees in the break.

While Tim B. should be happy, the real winner of the pack was defgav who claimed the Phillies.

That's a silver framed parallel of Cole Hamels - and it's a case hit (seeded 1:60 jumbo packs).  The card is THICK!  Even better, it's numbered out of a mere 20...this one happens to be 17/20.  If you watch the video for this box, you can get a better view of just how thick (and heavy) the card is.  The other nice thing about that silver framed card is that although it is a case hit, it doesn't count as one of the three hits in the box!  Thus, there are still two relics and auto yet to come!

Pack 5:

Unfortunately, neither the relics nor the auto would appear in pack 5 so you'll have to wait until the next post (or watch the video - you cheater)!

Instead, the fifth pack provided us with another 6 inserts including the Jackie Hernandez 1974 Topps buyback card for the Pirates.  I would hope that Matthew Scott (who claimed Pittsburgh) is happy with his team's output for this break!

That's it for now - though I'll have more from this box (including all three hits) in future posts.  I'm motivated to get all the scans done and posts written for this box so that I can finally rip into the final group break box.  My guess is that by the time this post goes live I will have already busted the box...but in terms of "real time thoughts", I'm still wondering what lurks in that final box!

  1. Loving the Hamels! I'd been wanting to pick up a framed card like that one of these days. Glad I scored a decent hit in the break.
