Highly Subjective Trading Results!

This past week I spent each morning going over a bunch of cards from a single trade package that arrived courtesy of blog reader Matt.  In the meantime, I happened to receive a bunch of other packages from other people that also need their chance to shine on the blog - some big and some small but all of the trades are appreciated!

For this morning's post, I'm picking one of the PWEs that arrived recently to post.  This one is courtesy of Brian over at Highly Subjective and Completely Arbitrary.  While you might think that a PWE post is a bit of a cop out for a weekend post since PWEs generally contain only a couple cards...well, you'd be wrong!

Brian managed to squeeze 14 cards (plus the sticker from the top of the post) in the PWE and all of the cards arrived unscathed!  Before I get to the other cards, let's focus on the card that was the catalyst for our most recent trade:

That's an Allen & Ginter Flags of All Nations mini from the 2007 Topps Allen & Ginter's set.  What, you thought you could escape a Ginter mini in one of my posts this week?  Pssh.

In addition to the one card I asked Brian for, he also threw in a bunch of other goodies for me.  I won't scan 'em all but I will show off a few of my favorites from the envelope.

I've mentioned a bunch of times that I'm in the process of totally reorganizing my collection.  It's definitely been a slow go - and it is a task that I can only force myself to do when I'm feeling particularly ambitious.  However, what has come out of my reorganizing efforts is that there are certain players that I've managed to amass a huge collection of cards of without even trying.  One such player is Adam Dunn for which Brian provided me with another card of.

This particular Dunn card is cool because it's printed on clear plastic stock.  It sort of looks like a credit card I guess - I think it's the font Donruss used coupled with the black bard running across the top of the card.

While I may have a bunch of Adam Dunn cards, the next player is one that doesn't usually get a lot of cardboard love:  Ted Kluszewski.

Perhaps he'd get more love if his last name were easier to spell?  I had to double and triple check it just to make sure I got it correct!  The card itself is a refractor from Topps Archives Reserve.  Interestingly, it's actually not serially numbered which seems odd for a refractor card.  Maybe the entire Topps Archives Reserve set was refractor-y?  I have no idea but I do know that I like this card a lot!

Finally, we get to the biggest surprise of the envelope:

That's a Devin Mesoraco autograph (sticker version but still cool).  I don't ever collect cards from the Just Minors brand - but I can certainly appreciate the rare player from the set who actually becomes something for the big league team!  I have big hopes for Mesoraco this year (even if I don't have big hopes for the Reds themselves).

Many thanks Brian for the trade package!  As for anyone else, you know the drill:  Check my want list and make an offer if you'd like to trade!

  1. John Miller taught me how to stuff the envelopes using a cut up album page - I don't think I can ever go back to the old way of lots of tape and crossing my fingers.
Using the pages means using more cards is actually better to keep them all from moving around.

  2. Topps Archives Reserve (made in 2001 and 2002) are all refractor-y, and they're both fantastic sets!
