2017 Topps Allen & Ginter: Box 2 - Part 1

I bought five boxes of 2017 Topps Allen & Ginter and so far I've already completely ripped one of them.

Now, it's time to move on to the second of the boxes...and this box will prove to be kind of neat in that it's a hot box!  More on that in a moment, first though, let's check out our box loader card.

Box loader:

Here's Dansby Swanson swinging the bat in front of...what exactly?  A park?  A Victorian mansion?  No idea what's going on in the background but I kind of like it.  It's different at least.

Packs 1 - 8:

As I said at the top of the post, this box ended up being a hot box which means there are no "normal" base cards.  Instead, all of the base cards are of a shiny, shimmering variety.  I have to admit, they look really sharp (and I can only hope to pull the Larkin card from this box)!

The first eight packs produced six base minis (three regular backs, two A&G backs, and one black bordered).  The final two minis were both inserts - including another awesome World's Dudes card.

The Packer Dude isn't a fan of Green Bay, instead he is part of the meat packing business in the mid 19th century.

The other mini was a Required Reading card - this time of The Count of Monte Cristo, another classic that I haven't read.

I like the Required Reading set, but I don't think they'll look all that interesting in a binder page.  I guess I should wait and see though...it's kind of cool that you get the first bit of the book on the front of the card at least.

My full sized inserts included the expected What a Day cards, along with another Revolution Battles card, two more World's Fair cards, and another Sport Fish & Fishing Lures card (my favorite set of the bunch).

That leaves me with two more cards to highlight from this set - including my first relic of the box.

Yeah, that's Aaron Judge and you better believe I'm putting it on eBay (actually it will hopefully already be on eBay by the time this post goes live).

My final card of note was my second hit of the box...at least, assuming silk cards count as hits.

The silk is numbered 05/10 and it's a pretty nice looking card (even if it is cut sort of weird).

That was a great start to the box - and being a hot box is kind of cool since I really do dig the shiny look.  If I had lots of money, I'd put together the shiny base set as well as the regular base set...but alas, I do not have that sort of cash (and I doubt that the Judge relic will net me enough money to entertain such thoughts).

  1. I don't think shiny belongs in A&G but a hot box is cool.

I really like the Required Reading minis, too.

  2. The shiny cards look great in person, I must say. If I were to get a second hot box, I'd for sure consider completing the shiny set.

All of the minis are well done this year, even the worst of them (in my mind, the Magicians) are still interesting.

The Judge relic has already been listed (and sold) on eBay. People are eating everything Judge related up right now (probably why Ginter boxes are now going for $125 or so).

  4. I hear that the hot boxes are one per case, so you beat the odds there.
If you don't decide to chase the shiny set AND you pulled a Vogelbach, then let me know!

  5. See, that's awesome, and that Judge card is a great pull for you...me, well, I'm the guy that pulls the Fish card.

    Great job.

  6. I loved the Count of Monte Cristo. I saw the movie first then read the book on vacation 1 year. I really liked the movie as it stayed true to the story line but I do have to say the book was WAY better (as they normally tend to be...)

It's always fun to follow your Ginter posts each year.

  7. I really do not want to buy a hot box.
