Loyal readers will know that I made a long, long term goal of trying to complete the original 1889 Allen & Ginter 50 Fish from American Waters set. Truthfully, I never thought I'd actually complete the thing...but thanks to a recent eBay steal, I'm only one card away from having the entire 50 card set built!
At this point, I'm only missing the Striped Bass now that I have the slippery Sardine in hand! If you'd like to check out my entire (almost complete) fish set, I have each card cataloged here.
If/when I finish off the fish set, the next question will be what should the next original Allen & Ginter set be for me to work on?! I'll take suggestions, though I do have a few ideas based on some random pickups that I've made over the years.

Wow! Congrats Chris. That's an amazing accomplishment. Hopefully you can track down that last card soon.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool, can't imagine having a set that old. Good luck on the Striped Bass hunt.
ReplyDeleteVery cool that you are only one card away from this set. Only took 100+ years... oh wait... um 5? 10? When did you start your quest?
ReplyDeleteMy first three original A&G purchases (two of which were from this fish set) was made back in April 2012. I think my first purchase planted the seed (the lure?) that made me decide to chase the entire fish set!
ReplyDeleteI used to fish for stripers when I lived out on the island. They're amazing fish to catch and to eat.
