Barry Larkin / Andres Galarraga / Craig Biggio
Year: 2001
Brand: Fleer Triple Crown
Insert set: Crowning Achievements
Card number: 3
Despite being a Hall of Fame player, Barry Larkin wasn't featured in nearly as many insert sets as many of his other Hall of Fame worthy peers (such as Griffey, Jr., Bonds, or even guys like Maddux). Therefore, it's always fun to get an insert card of Larkin's from his late playing days. Unfortunately for team purists, this particular insert features Larkin alongside two guys who play for "other" teams (Galarraga for the Braves and Biggio for the Astros).
This 2001 Fleer Triple Crown insert is from the Crowning Achievements set. In total, the Crowning Achievements set contains 15 cards but only card #3 features three players (all other cards feature one player only). I guess it's Fleer's "fun" nod to the "triple" in Triple Crown to make card 3 feature three guys. They did the same little trick with their other insert sets as well (Larkin wasn't featured in either of the other two sets it should be noted).
As for the card itself, there isn't a lot to say. The front is a mishmash of a bunch of dudes swinging a bat while the backside features three different styles of head shots and brief descriptions of each of the three players. I don't hate the card but it's definitely not my favorite design ever. I do appreciate Larkin getting included in an insert set, even if he has to share the spotlight with two other players.

Combo cards can be cool when card companies take the time to think things through. Just not sure if this one fits the bill. That being said... if I collected any of these three guys, this card would be a must.
