In the middle of last week, I had a day where I got four different packages all full of baseball cards from various bloggers. That was, by far, the largest single mail day that I've had in recent (and not-so-recent memory) and it certainly made me feel good! For much of 2019, trading seemed to have been on the decline but things have certainly picked up lately - so much so that I'm now nearing 40 trades for the year, a number that looked nearly impossible just a few short weeks ago.
Speaking of 40 trades, I think I've probably completed at least 40 trades over the years with the sender of today's envelope: Greg from the always entertaining (and informative) Night Owl Cards.
If there were a baseball card blogger "Mount Rushmore" the one thing that I'm guessing all bloggers would agree on is that the venerable Owl would be one of the four featured writers on the mountain. I'm not sure who'd be the other three but no matter they'd all be outshone by Greg!
Not only is Greg a gifted writer and seemingly tireless researcher for his blog, he's also a fun guy to trade with. Greg usually dabbles a bit in Allen & Ginter each year and he seems to have rather good luck pulling cards that I need. For this particular trade, he sent me a few of the remaining base cards that somehow eluded me through four hobby boxes (and some blasters) as well as one of the retail-only "New to the Zoo" minis.
Greg also helped me out with a pair of 2018 Donruss base cards - a set that I still haven't managed to complete despite just opening yet another box of the stuff last week!
Thanks for the trade, Greg! Even more, thanks for getting me to think about who would be a good fit for a baseball card blogger "Mount Rushmore."
I think I'll open it up to the audience, who would you nominate for such a honor?! Let me know below!

I'd throw Fuji and Dimebox Nick up there next to Night Owl. There are a few blogs I click and read every post and they are on that short list.
ReplyDeleteA fourth? I'm biased because I'm a Cub guy, but I'd vote for Wrigley Wax. Death, taxes and a 6am CDT post from Wrigley Wax are the only true certainties in this world.
Fuji's on the "commenter Mt. Rushmore" as well I'd say, easily one of the best bloggers out there.
Delete+1 on Fuji and Dimebox Nick.
ReplyDeleteMy old school blogging Mt. Rushmore is The Baseball Card Blog, Wax Heaven, Cardboard Junkie and Dinged Corners (or Stale Gum, can we do 5?)
ReplyDeleteAll good choices and some of the earliest baseball card blogs that I read as well.
DeleteAgree to Night Owl. And this may sound selfish, but I will stick myself up there. 8 years without missing a single day of blogging? That’s cal Ripken stuff. Come on lol. The last two is tough. Fuji and a write in I guess. I look at guys who get lots of comments (though I don’t fall under that category) and guys who post often and who have been around the longest.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about something similar when I wrote a Night Owl thank you post a few weeks ago. Ended up leaving it out, because there were way too many blogs out there that I enjoy. If I were ever to actually do this... it'd have to be broken down into categories.
ReplyDeleteFor the sake of this comment, I'll go ahead and create my Mt. Rushmore of Influential Bloggers: Wax Heaven, Night Owl Cards, Cardboard Junkie, and Stale Gum. All of these guys inspired me to start my blog.
Adding my votes for Fuji, Dime Box Nick, and yourself to round out the top four with N.O.
