Flashback Friday! I Miss Ken Griffey, Jr. on my Baseball Card Packs!

Happy Friday, everyone!  It's time for another Flashback Friday - my semi-consistent attempt at posting something "retro" every Friday (or at least on some Fridays)!  For today's flashback, we are going back to 2006 with a pack of 2006 Fleer Ultra.

The pack only contains 5 cards but the wrapper does claim that we'll get an insert card in every pack so I guess that's something to look forward to, right?  I also can't help but wonder if this is one of the last pack wrappers to show off a Cincinnati Reds player on it (non-Bowman edition at least)?

So, what does our pack hold for us?  Let's rip it now and when I do I'll try to share a little something about each player based on what each card tells us.

56.  Brandon Webb

Did you know that Webb started 2005 with a 6-0 record?  He also led the Diamondbacks (or was second on the team) in both wins and strikeouts in each of his first three seasons.

156.  Ivan Rodriguez

The World Baseball Classic gets some love on Pudge's card with the bit about Rodriguez hitting a single and a solo home run in an 8-3 victory over the Netherlands by Puerto Rico.

100.  Jose Guillen

In 2006, Guillen was a nine-year veteran who had played for seven different teams.

DP14.  Diamond Producers:  Derrek Lee

This is actually a pretty cool looking insert that celebrates Lee winning the NL batting crown with a .335 average.  I'll be honest, I would have probably guess 100 players before settling on Derrek Lee as the NL batting champ in 2006!

Gold parallel:  157.  Jeremy Bonderman

According to the card back, Bonderman has "shown signs of improvement during each of his three seasons with the Tigers."  That's a fairly polite statement considering the improvement that Bonderman had shown to date consisted of him going from 19 losses and a 5.56 ERA in 2003 to a 13 loss, 4.57 ERA in 2005.  Yikes!

And there's the pack!  We ended up with two "chase" cards with the Diamond Producer insert as well as the gold parallel (were they still called Gold Medallion cards in '06, I'm not sure).  Probably no keepers for my personal Frankenset so if you want something here, holler!
