Kerry (of Cards on Cards fame) recently sent me another PWE filled with Reds goodies from a group break of sorts. Kerry had a bunch of the Topps of the Class packs and he decided to do a group break by team. I had no idea about the Topps of the Class set, nor did I even know how many Reds were in the set (or which Reds) but I decided to give it a go.
Doing a little research for this post, I found that the 2019 Topps of the Class set is a 100 card set that was available in 5 card packs for kids who brought their report cards to hobby stores. From what I can find online, there were three Reds in the base set: Joey Votto, Scooter Gennett, and Yasiel Puig. Of the three, I ended up with a triple Vottos...
...and dual Puigs...
...and not a single Gennett. That's alright though, probably only one of those Votto cards is a for sure keeper. The Puig card will have to fight for a spot in my Reds Frankenset whenever I get around to updating that thing again!
The set does have an insert card "Greats" which features Joey Votto (and 24 other non-Reds players) but I didn't end up getting the Votto in the break.
When all was said and done, it was a fun little break and all it will cost me down the line is at least one card to mail back to Kerry from his want list (which I've already mailed off to Kerry as of yesterday)!

Pretty cool concept from Topps. Hopefully, kids took advantage of the promotion and actually brought their report cards into the shops. I only have a few card shops in my area and I never see grade-school kids in them. It's always a bunch of old-dudes (like me.) I remember in 1990, Donruss put out a "Learning Series" that I think was distributed to schools and the teachers could use the cards in the classroom. 55 cards in that set I think.
