Group Break Recap: 2000 Pacific Prism / 2016 Topps Bunt

I've moved my group break ripping nights to Tuesday nights, so I've got back-to-back group break recaps in order to stay caught up!

I was super excited about this particular break involving a retail box of 2000 Pacific Prism and a blaster of 2016 Topps Bunt because I love virtually all things Pacific!  The Prism set can be sort of thought of as Pacific's answer to Topps Tek - a set that is all about individual player cards with many parallels.

However, before I get to the Prism box, I'd be remiss if I didn't show off this little beauty that we pulled from the Topps Bunt blaster.

I certainly had no expectations that we'd pull something like a card numbered out of 99 from Topps Bunt...and to get such a card of a star player was the icing on the cake!  This is a platinum parallel and you can see that it's numbered 18/99.  The Platinum parallels were seeded 1:53 packs so this was a very pleasant surprise for a blaster that only had 11 packs in it!

Now we can move on to the box of Pacific Prism.  If you'd prefer, here's the full video of the entire break (including the bonus packs I threw in).

For those that prefer scans, let's take a look at what else we pulled beginning with our 1:25 pack NL Legends card of Tony Gwynn.

There is an AL Legends version of this insert set in 2000 Prism (also seeded 1:25 packs) but our box did not yield one of those.  Instead, (and I think this is a fine trade), we pulled a 1:25 pack die-cut card from the Center Stage set.

I love Pacific die-cut cards and this one definitely fits the bill as a sort of "odd design" by Pacific.

The remaining highlights of the box are all parallels including not one, not two, but THREE different Holographic Gold parallels, each of which are numbered out of 480.

Obviously, I was SUPER excited to pull that Barry Larkin parallel - completely unexpected and it made not only the group break awesome for me personally but it actually improved my outlook on this entire week!  I should mention that I think these cards look a lot better in hand as opposed to how they scan, but they definitely are rather gaudy no matter how you slice it!

And finally, our rarest parallel we pulled from Prism:

That's a Sheen Silver parallel which is super confusing because it's not serially numbered...and in an even weirder twist, different numbers of Sheen Silver parallels were created for different players (either 448 copies or 565 copies depending on the player...or zero since this is actually only a partial parallel of the base set).  In fact, only 100 of the 150 cards in the base set have a Sheen Silver parallel.  So yeah, it's confusing!

For Jeff Kent, he was part of the group of players who only got 448 Sheen Silver copies created so this did end up being our rarest parallel of the box by about 32 copies as compared to the gold parallels.

Overall, I had a great time busting this box.  I wasn't expecting three serially numbered parallels from a retail box, and to get those plus that Silver parallel was a lot fun.  I'd still love to try and track down a hobby box of 2000 Prism but for now I think I'll simply sit back and admire my brand new golden Barry Larkin card!

If you'd like new cards to admire, I encourage you to check out my next group break - a box of 2000 Fleer Mystique (another awesome set from the year 2000)!  For full break details, go here.
