Just For Fun: 2014 Topps Stadium Club - Best Card Competition (Cards 181 - 200)

We've finally made it to the end of the first sweep through the binder of the 2014 Topps Stadium Club set.  For this fun little competition, I'm choosing the best card in the set by first picking the best card from each page of the set.  Once that's done (and it will be done by the end of this post), we'll be able to start our bracket of sorts for the best card in the set overall!

Page 21:  Cards 181 - 189

This page has a few cards on it that I like quite a bit.  For starters, you may be surprised but I like the C.J. Cron rookie card a lot - something about the little mountain in the background makes me happy.  The Yelich dugout shot, the Brett and the baby blues, or even either of the two plays at the wall (Crawford or Gomez) could have won some other pages but for this particular page I have to give the nod to David Ortiz taking a selfie with Barack Obama.

While the previous page had a ton of standout cards, I don't feel that this particular page has much going for it.  There's a lot of cards that all kind of look the same with only the Cal Ripken, Jr. card adding any variety to the page.  Almost by default, Ripken wins this one.

This is the easiest page to win on in the entire binder since it's only two cards.  The Goldschmidt card is perfectly fine but this is an easy choice for the winner here:  It's gotta be Joey D.

That does it for the first round of selections!  Next up, we'll start the bracket for best card in the set where each match-up will consist of a winner from one of the pages in the binder.  This should be good!

Of course, before we start the bracket I'd love to hear what you think about my selections for this round.  Do you agree with me or did I screw things up royally?

  1. Gotta be DiMaggio, with Christian Yelich sitting in the dugout in 2nd place.

    Good Job. 👍

  2. - Page 21: Ortiz, Crawford, and Brett. The Ortiz wins with ease.

    - Page 22: Cole, Seaver, and Ripken, Jr. Pics from the streak being broken are probably overplayed by now, but there wasn't much competition here.

    - Page 23: DiMaggio almost by default.

  3. Partial to the Crawford card on Page 21 as he ended up taking a nose dive into the stands on the play. But the Ortiz obviously stands out.

    Page 22: Ripken I guess.

    Page 23: DiMaggio I guess.

  4. Can't vote against Brett or Seaver. And of course DiMaggio.

  5. 44, Ripken and Joe D. DiMaggio is one of my faves from the set. It's photo I don't recall seeing elsewhere - and those bats!!

  6. Granted there were only 3 pages to choose, but I agree with all 3 choices!

  8. I like your picks. Normally I would go with Posey... but the Big Papi is really cool. I'm sure somewhere out there some one is building a "selfie" PC. Didn't see any cards that stood out to me on the second page, so I would have defaulted to Cal too. And the B&W DiMaggio trumps Goldy.
