I'm writing this post while simultaneously watching the news on January 6. It's almost 11 PM EST here and Congress is just now voting on whether or not to accept the results of the Arizona vote. Frankly, it's kind of hard to focus on much right now...this country is such a mess and it's hard for me to see a clear way out.
For myself, I live in an extremely rural part of Pennsylvania - to whit, a number of my neighbors still have their Trump signs on their lawns... Trump won the vote in my county by an 80-20 margin, or something like that. Over half my town seems to think masks are a sign of weakness, the vaccine is embedded with tracking chips, and that yes, the election was stolen.
There's no reasoning with that. With any of that.
Science has proven that masks help...and even if they didn't help, they don't hurt so why not wear one for awhile?
Vaccines have been proven to be useful against all sorts of terrible things. Know anyone who died of polio lately? I didn't think so, thank a vaccine.
Tracking chips in vaccines? How about tracking chips in your cell phone? That's true. How about tracking/listening devices in your home or car. Alexa, anyone? That's true. But tracking chips inside a vaccine? Even if that were true, it'd be less useful (monetarily speaking) than all those cookies on computer put there by the likes of Google, Facebook, Amazon, etc.
No, the country is in a rather terrible place right now...but you probably don't come to Nachos Grande for political news - especially news that's multiple days old since this post won't go "live" on my blog for a couple of days. Still, writing can be cathartic and that's what you get from me today.
Those cards that have been scattered about this post? All are courtesy of Julie over at A Cracked Bat. I don't have many words to say about baseball cards but I will say that this particular envelope arrived in the mail today and it was nice to have the tiniest bit of normalcy. So for that, Julie, I thank you.
Now, let's get our country back together...everyone, not just Republicans and/or Democrats but all of us as Americans.

Here! Here! I couldn't agree with you more. This has been a rough week. It's not possible to reason with those who blame this on Antifa or BLM. Accountability is out the window and has been for some time. I often wonder if technology will be our undoing. Untruths, conspiracies - all spread like fire in dry brush. I cried this week but tears alone won't stop the conflagration.
ReplyDeleteI've cried more than once. There are so many people who have been swallowing this propaganda for so long that they won't even consider anything else--hence them turning on Fox News for reporting the reality that Biden won. I don't know how we can fix this.
DeleteAnd if you haven't heard Joy Reid talking about how privileged these rioters were, it's well worth 5 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWgQ1vKCeEo&feature=emb_logo
A. That Altuve is awesome.
ReplyDeleteB. As a teacher, I know it's my professional duty to watch what I say... because I know it can impact my students in both positive and negative ways. #45 has a similar responsibility and he dropped the ball. Hopefully someone can convince him to speak to his followers before more violence erupts, more property is damaged, and more lives are taken.
