The 1988 Fleer set come in two distinct versions - "regular" pack cards and "glossy" factory set cards.  The card you see above is the glossy version, though it's probably difficult to tell via the scan! According to baseballcardpedia.com, there were an estimated 40,000-60,000 factory sets produced for the 1988 Fleer set.  By today's standards that's a ton but by late 80s standards this is actually a sizeable reduction from what Fleer apparently produced the previous year!

As for the card itself, I'm not sure I've ever paid much attention to the background of Larkin's photo and that's a shame.  What a great little shot of the stands packed full of people at what I presume is either a spring training game or else a horse race, kind of hard to tell.
