Barry Larkin
Year: 1992
Brand: 7-Eleven Coins
Card number: 13
As a player collector, there is a rather difficult line to figure out in terms of what I am trying to acquire for said player. I think most collectors would say that all cards are fair game, it becomes much less clear when dealing with some of the other collectibles out there - things like figurines (I say no), stickers (I mostly say yes), coins such as the one above (I say yes), and other oddballs such as magnets or schedules (I say no). Each player collector has to make up his or her own mind for each of those types of categories - and probably countless others that I haven't mentioned as well!
As for today's "card," it's actually a round disc that you could get at 7-Eleven stores back in the day. The disc was produced by Score and it definitely has the feeling of those "This Day in History" lenticular cards that Score inserted in their 1991 flagship set. Honestly, it's a well done "card" for a gas station giveaway!

I have a few of these that are a bit older. They're a neat little collectible, but sometimes it was hard to make out who the player was and the light had to hit it just right.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, after baseball practice, I'd ride my bike down the street and grab a Slurpee. If the stars were aligned, they'd have the cups with the baseball coins at the bottom.
