Well, 2022 Topps Baseball Series 1 is officially out in the wild (even if baseball itself isn't) and I was able to procure a jumbo box of the stuff for use in my ongoing Breaker's Club #5. Unfortunately, due to time commitments, I'm not able to do a full box review but I am able to show off a few of the highlights.
The number one question for anyone who opens anything 2022 Topps Series 1 is "Did you Wander?" And our answer is a resounding yes!
We Wander-ed our way into a pair of base rookies...
...plus the oversized box topper rookie card...
...plus a silver pack rookie card!
All told, probably close to $200+ worth of Wander cards alone (which is insane but that's the baseball card market for you). At least hiflew was happy since he bought the Rays for the group break solely with the hopes of landing a Wander. Also, kudos to Topps for making all three versions of the card have different photographs.
Other highlights from the box include a great die-cut design of Eddie Murray:
We also pulled two serially numbered cards - a Topps Gold #/2022 of Ronald Acuna, Jr. and a Throwback parallel #/99 of Shane McClanahan (what can I say, the Rays did very well in this box)!
The rest of our box was mostly a mix of stuff you've already seen - but here are the three hits:
A Junk auto plus two relics of a pair of great AL East players. I'm sure I'm not the first to make the "junk auto" joke but in all seriousness, the Junk auto is numbered out of only 199 on the back so it's actually a rather nice pull!
In summary, an auto /199, a David Ortiz relic, an Aaron Judge manu-relic, two numbered parallels, and 4 Wander Franco cards including two tough-to-find box toppers. Yeah, I think we had a good box!

Fantastic jumbo box! I'd never heard of Mr. Junk before. I'm sure he's heard a ton of remarks about his last name. And I'm sure his name will be added to the list of notorious baseball names.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how much it costs to buy the Rays slot in a break (especially compared to a year ago - I think I paid $2 lol)
ReplyDeleteNot a bad box at all...Thanks for showing off the hits!
