Barry Larkin
Year: 1992
Brand: Kahn's
Card number: None
Each year, the Kahn's hot dog company sponsored a Reds team set giveaway as a stadium promotion. Of course, since Barry Larkin was a lifelong Red, he has quite a few different Kahn's cards for me to track down. The other day I showed off his first Kahn's card (1987) while today we move to a slightly more recent version from 1992.
The Kahn's sets were all quite nice, especially for a stadium giveaway but unfortunately you won't find any new Kahn's cards in the Cincinnati area. That's because according to WCPO Cincinnati:
In the '90s, Kahn's became a Sara Lee brand, and its new owners assigned it to the Wisconsin-based Hillshire Farms division. Kahn's is now a small, regional division of Arkansas-based Tyson foods. The Cincinnati plant closed for good in 2006 and has since been torn down.
I guess baseball card collectors will have to settle for the Kahn's cards of the 90s...or at least in my case, specifically the Barry Larkin Kahn's cards of the 1990s!

A lot of the neat giveaways like these will never come back. It's too bad to, because this kind of stuff was really fun.
